Rockefeller: Cheney applied 'constant' pressure to stall investigation on flawed Iraq intelligence
By Jonathan S. Landay
McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney put "constant" pressure on the Republican former head of the Senate Intelligence Committee to stall an investigation into the Bush administration’s use of flawed intelligence on Iraq, the panel’s Democratic chairman charged Thursday.

In an interview with McClatchy Newspapers, Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia said it was "not hearsay" that Cheney, a leading proponent of invading Iraq, pushed Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., to drag out the probe.

"It was just constant," Rockefeller said of Cheney’s alleged interference.

Cheney said in response to Rockefeller's charge that he believes Sen. Roberts "was a good chairman" of the Intelligence Committee, spokeswoman Lea McBride said.

1. Why am I not surprised?
They're going to pick up the investigations now, I believe. I hope all the details of this latest come out then.

2. This would be phase II
There are 3 of 5 sections left to release and Jay's going to get them published.

I have zero sympathy for Whitewash Roberts. He's just as dirty as Cheney.

3. Cheney, meet bus
They sure seem to be throwing ole Deadeye Dick under the wheels, don't they? Things coming out of the Libby trial that's stripping the facade off this misadministration and exposing the beast underneath.

Welcome to the party, Dickie ole boy.... the party we're gonna throw when you resign in disgrace. You and the Chimperor should have done that on 9-12-01 after the world saw your incompetence and failure. Good-bye Dick!

7. Remember the chants from the Clinton character assassinatinon?
Edited on Thu Jan-25-07 08:05 PM by higher class
It was a rolling chant by members of the right wing army.

It started out -
. JUST COME FORWARD! .... That went on for weeks. Then -
. JUST ADMIT IT! ,,,, More weeks. Then -
. JUST APOLOGIZE!

This is what should be done to Cheney.

Then, let the Republicans decide if he should resign.

The law suits can still go forward.

There is a lot to pay for. A lot to account for.

9. McClatchy News bought out Knight-Ridder News last year.
They are "establishment" owning many national newspapers in addition to the Knight-Ridder chain they just bought out.

10. The dam is bursting. The Bush Admin will implode this year.
2007 will bring nothing but ceaseless, devestating, news stories for BushCo. And considering the situation in Iraq will continue deteriorating, and that Lebanon is heading into another civil war, and that all of our industry is being outsourced to Asia, and that average Americans are getting poorer...
well, year 2008 ain't looking too bright for the Pubs either.

In this political environment, the Pubs are gonna hafta do something dramatic to save their own skins.
Pin it all on a scapegoat. Rumsfeld was too little, too late - gonna need another sacrifice.

I'm telling ya, Cheney's going under the bus. Guaranteed.

13. I predict that Cheney will resign due to health problem.
An Impeachment is looming so he will resign before that comes forth. This will happen about 6 months from now or sooner.

15. It's a good bet, anyway.
I think it's going to come down so hard and fast people are going to have to take a day or two for it to all sink in.

18. How nice that Cheney didn't bother to issue a denial
At the very least, they decided not to insult us by claiming that Rockefeller was wrong. Cheney just says that Roberts was a good chairman. Heck, the guy who stalls the cops while you flush the stash is always a good guy, isn't he?
