Fishing and Trolls.

Maybe it's just me, but I love to look at the new members profiles. I guess I'm just doing my part, ya know, patrolling DU and trying to keep the riff-raff out. Also, like most people here, I enjoy a good argument and do love seeing the pizza come right on time.

Here is what I've noticed while checking the profile: Just about every single "new member" that eventually ends up getting that all important pizza delivery lists fishing as a hobby almost every time. Don't believe me? Check for yourself.

Of course you can't do it once they've had their pizza, so you have to be quick. It started a couple of months ago when I saw someone who had the smell of "troll" on them and I checked the profile. Sure enough, fishing. Then a day later, it's just a tombstone there. So I check another, sure enough, fishing again. Now, I don't mean to cast suspicion on good Duers that happen to enjoy fishing and have it listed as one of their hobbies, but it does give me pause when I check a new profile and find fishing listed.

Kind of makes me wonder if they use it as a code of some kind. Anyone else notice this? Am I just crazy? Didn't Obama just kick butt last night? (Just threw that last one in so I'd get some responses.)

Because I look at peoples profiles? By the way, you can be as complete or incomplete as you'd like in your descriptions. Mostly what people look for is how long someones been a member. It's also nice to know what state people are from so you can address people based on their region.

I used to actually fish commercially for salmon on the norther coast of Ca. That was more like just driving a boat in circles. I do miss sitting on a shore and throwing in a line.

Are there trolls here, sure, but there are also lots of new posters due to election year and because DU is a fun place. I remember when I was a newbie and people did the kind of shit you're doing, I didn't like it, even though it wasn't directed at me. Let the newbies and trolls sort themselves, it happens over time. You don't have to "keep out the riff raff", that's for the mods.

Oh, and I have no idea whether or not you're a troll, this is the first time I've seen you. But perhaps you're a bit more empathic now;)
