What was your favorite Paul Newman role?
For me, hands down, his portrayal of Frank Galvin in The Verdict.

Of course Butch Cassidy is one of my all time favs, but good god he was masterful in The Verdict.

1. As Co-Owner of Newman-Haas Racing.
He did more for the sport of Open-Wheel Auto Racing than can be possibly measured.

48. Yes he was.
He won several championships in SCCA racing as well as running in the 24 hours of Le Mans where the team he co drove for finished 2nd.

For those who haven't seen it, it's a shaggy dog story, a character sketch, and everybody in it gives a masterful performance. They're all 100% believable and even the unpleasant characters evoke a great deal of sympathy because the punchline is that we're all somebody's fool.

Besides, "Whacker" is worth the price of renting the DVD.

I thought Cat On A Hot Tin Roof was good, and there were a lot of undertones in that movie for the era.

The Young Philadelphians was one of his better early performances.

I also liked the scene from Winning when Paul Newman drove a 1969 Ford Thunderbird around the Indianapolis 500 Race Track, which was a glimpse into his personal interests.

Newman was a great actor, who did a lot for others. The world is a better place because he was here.

Couple of HUD movie quotes

Hud Bannon: They're letting ladies in free tonight Alma, you just might qualify.

Hud Bannon: You don't look out for yourself, the only helping hand you'll ever get is when they lower the box.

RIP Paul. I love you.

23. Paul Newman story.
It goes he was driving somewhere and stopped to help some young guy who was broken down, out of gas, something like that. The guy said thanks, and that Paul looked familiar. Finally he figured it out. "You're the guy on the popcorn!"

And Brick in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - Oh ----- I almost forgot Fast Eddie... and then he was great in Sweet Bird of Youth.

I adore Paul Newman - I met him once back in the early '80's, he asked me for directions. I almost forgot my name when he smiled at me. He was in a red Ferrari. I love him for all the philanthropic work he did and for being a great husband and father. He always stuck up for the little guy and voted his conscience. He was strongly anti war. He was a gentle-man.

I am so sorry for his family - What a talent. What a gentle soul.
