Watch out Maine - Tropical Storm Kyle
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 01:38 PM by malaise
70 MPH — Location: 33.3N 69.7W — Movement: N
The GFDL...HWRF...and SHIPS models
all forecast Kyle to become a hurricane before it reaches the cold
water north of the Gulf Stream in 24-36 hr...and the intensity
forecast follows suit. After Kyle reaches the colder water...it
should weaken and begin extratropical transitions. Kyle is
expected to become extratropical over eastern Canada by 72 hr and
be absorbed by a frontal system by 96 hr.

The forecast track...intensity...and wind radii require watches for
portions of the coast of Maine at this time.

1. Hey, can this thing go cold?
Will it be rain and storm surge, or could it get icy if it hits the cold water at high speed?

4. We already had four inches...
...of rain between noon yesterday and noon today.

We are running sixteen inches ahead of last year's precipitation with a quarter of the year to go.

5. It'll be a bigger deal on Cape Cod
where a lot of rich yuppies have built up the outer shoreline. There were laws in place that prevent them from rebuilding if a certain percentage of their land is lost to erosion due to storms, don't know if that's the case now.

Oh wait, the constant refrain is "Nobody lives on Cape Cod in the winter!"

(inside joke for those of us who lived there year round)
