McCain Replaces Palin with Startled Deer
Hoofed Running Mate Could be Game-changer

With less than a week to go before the crucial vice-presidential debate, GOP presidential nominee John McCain announced today that he was replacing his running mate, Alaska governor Sarah Palin, with a startled deer.

According to campaign insiders, the decision to select a hoofed mammal to replace Gov. Palin evolved after Sen. McCain watched his running mate's performance in a series of interviews with CBS's Katie Couric.

"Good Lord, a startled deer could do better than that," Sen. McCain reportedly said, prompting his aides to draw up a shortlist of startled deer.

The Arizona senator supposedly brushed aside concerns that a startled deer would wilt under the pressure of a televised debate, telling aides, "At least a goddamn deer won't go on about Alaska being close to Russia."

Do mooses just stand there in the headlights too? I've never experienced this with a moose.
I wonder if they faint? I've seen those goats faint.

5. Slam dunk for Biden on Thursday
How licked are Joe Biden's chops at the prospect of this debate? He could win by yielding his time and letting her speak twice on questions. Chandler from "Friends" would say. "Could this BE any more of a mismatch?"

Unless Biden uses the C-word (I don't mean conservative), he wins hands down. How thinly stretched will the republican claims of victory be after that debate, when they have nothing to hang their hat on with last night's debate when McCain was relatively sharp?

7. He's gotta be careful, though...
Granted, he could easily take her out with one lip tied behind his back, but if she's TOO bloodied at the end of the debate, it'll be spun far and wide how Big Bad Biden beat up on poor little Sarahcuda.

It should definitely be must-see TV, though. I can't wait.

8. He does have to be careful
I'm not concerned that Biden will be the one to lack decorum. Your point is valid, but I don't think Biden will let you down. I think it will be a case of Palin spewing forced catch phrases, and Biden responding with thoughtful answers. I don't see Biden going for overkill. Palin will likely be on the attack like McCain was, and Biden will swat each one down like Obama did. The big difference will be the margin of victory in my opinion.

9. Oh, I have no doubt Biden will handle it with taste and professionalism.
I only worry that he might might have to be TOO tactful in making his own points so as to not be seen as running roughshod over Ms. Mooseburger.

By disposition, Joe is generally NOT a "toned-down" type of guy. But I know that he knows that, and is making the appropriate adjustments. I have faith in him (he was my second choice for the nomination, after Kucinich). He'll do fine.
