The Democrats are allowing themselves to be snookered AGAIN.
On every major network and in every major paper, this has become the Democratic bailout plan. Now the GOP wants to negotiate TAX BREAKS for corporations.

If the Democrats allow the Republicans to paint them as owning this bill, if they back down and allow more tax cuts, THEY WILL LOOSE THE NEXT ELECTION.

I think they have been negotiating too long. They are too close to the subject, they have lost all objectivity.

I am not saying they should not try to do their job. I am saying they HAVE to go to George Bush and tell him to get the GOP on board or they are not holding one more meeting, not one more negotiating session.

We are being OUTFOXED again.

1. and you'd think the dem leadership would know this, or pick it up
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 08:36 AM by ixion
from reading...say... DU? :wtf:

All an aide would have to do is say: "Senator, look at what the blogs are saying. Don't you think it makes sense?"

Which makes it all the worse, because of course they must be aware of this possibility.

So again I say: :wtf:

Allowing? Hell, they're pushing the issue...pushing it for monkey boy. :wtf:

4. We need to be not just saying it, we need to be screaming it from the rooftops.
We need to email bomb their offices. We need to STOP THEM NOW.

They are going to back themselves into a corner and THEY ARE GOING TO LOOSE THE NEXT ELECTION.

I don't give a damn about the bailout any more. The consequences of loosing this election are MUCH MORE FAR REACHING THAN LOOSING THIS ELECTION!!!

2. Dems need to toughen up on this issue
Repubs want to play brinkmenship and gamble with a Great Depression - let them

But No Dem should cast a single vote for this bill until McSame himself cast the first yes vote

3. Tax cuts won't fly. And the Dodd/Frank plan is 1000x better than the 2-page Paulson plan
Take a deep breath - the Dems won't "loose" the election because of this.

6. You are wrong. Have you been listening to the MSM? It has become the Democratic bailout.
It is not popular. I cannot believe that the Dems do not just go the President and tell him to either get HIS people under control or ALL BETS ARE OFF.

Right now the perception of the American people is that the DEMS are going to bailout Bush and the Greedy bastards on Wall Street.

Please tell me how that is not going to loose them the election?

17. Actually I think they are trying to tell you the correct form of the verb is LOSE, not LOOSE...
It's: "We're going to lose (not loose) the election." :)

10. Oops. Lose is correct but nonetheless, we will lose unless the Dems stop
negotiating with Repukes who's sole objective is to try to make this the Dem's fault.

15. So what. The battle is what is taking place in the minds of the American people right now!!
I'm listening to CSPAN right now and this has become the DEMOCRATIC BAILOUT PLAN!! Both Dems and Repukes who are calling are referring to it as the DEMOCRATIC BAILOUT PLAN.

7. Posts like this attempt to transfer ownership and blame...
For this putrid bucket of economic vomit and urine to the Dems. I reject that out of hand. This was created by 30 years of failed-from-the-get-go repuke policies and repuke corruption. There is no reasonable and sane way to make a case for blaming the mess on the cleaning crew.

So just don't make the effort.

9. In this TYT video,
Cenk says that the house repub bill includes no corporate taxes or capital gains taxes for TWO YEARS! That's outrageous! I think most Americans will be pissed beyond belief if something like this passes! And you are right, the dems will lose, because the media is spinning it as if the house repubs don't want any bailout - they are not telling the truth that the house repubs are pushing for a bailout that helps the rich even more!

I have not been able to find an article that spells this the house bill out explicitly. Can someone clarify all this for me? With links? Please?

16. 100% correct
Bush will be using his weekly broadcast to push the Rethug agenda one more time. Rethugs are going to lie and then switch their votes against the bill.

Hear Pat Buchanan well - the Dems can pass this bill but they want Rethug cover. This is Bush's bill - no Rethugs, no bill. Just say No.

18. Exactly. I think that the Dems are negotiating in good faith. I believe they want to
solve the problem. But, they have allowed this to become their plan in the minds of the American people and not they are tied to it. They have to step back. They have to tell the President to either get the House GOP on board or the negotiations are off.

They are going to take the blame for this WILDLY UNPOPULAR BILL!!!!!

26. I think the Dem's with their tunnel vision have
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 09:57 AM by vpilot
convinced themselves that will be seen as hero's for saving the day with their bailout plan. If all goes well that might happen, but IMO its far too risky. If there is one thing the Reptilians are good at its framing an issue as a negative for the Dem's and making it stick. They would be far better off to back out and let the Reptilians thrash around stewing in their own mess.

23. Breathtakingly naive...
They truly believe they are saving the world's economy because Hank Paulson told them so. Most likely, they will pass this bailout with a huge majority of Democratic votes and a few Republicans. It will have their stamp on it.

28. Yep. I just wonder why so many on DU don't seem to understand it
1. Everyone knows the bailout was Bush's proposal.

2. If the Dems said no we won't do anything amid this crisis you bet they would lose.

3. From the beginning the Dems said without Rep support they will not pass it.

I'm not worried at all.

25. Personally, they need to walk away even without Republican cover.
And Nancy has the perfect opportunity. She can say any bill that doesn't contain provisions for mortgage renegotiation won't fly. Take your marbles and go home. Let the Republicans sweat, let them fight and eat each other. Let the lamest of lame ducks try to make his party toe the line. Even Dick Cheney now just looks like the little man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz to everyone, his evil mojo is gone.

I agree with you, this administration just gave the Democrats a box of nitroglycerin and told them to get it through the mountain pass as fast as you can. And it looks like we fell for it. Again.
