CONGRESS are you LISTENING?

Aides to lawmakers in both parties say telephone calls from constituents are running heavily against the bailout — in some cases nearly 100-1 against, making the vote a potentially tricky one for a candidate in a competitive race.

2. Of course they are. No one has presented a good argument about why the bailout....
...is important to the average American.

I do hope that Congressional Democrats do a better job at this.

11. Chris Dodd's bill allows narrow help from bankruptcy judges.

When re-writing a mortgage, the judge can make it a maximum of 40 years and must require typical payments, etc.

It will be interesting to see what the final bill looks like. I wish I was more educated about this, so that I could have a knowledgeable opinion.

8. Republicans don't like it
The Republicans do not approve of anything that would help the working people. We need to be realistic. Because the important thing is that we do something. That means compromising. This is just the reality, whether we like it or not! Hey don't get me wrong, I agree with you, but we need to be practical.

After all the Republicans have the majority in the House...no wait, they don't anymore, do they?

They have a wildly popular president in office... no, I guess they don't.

I know! The stupid people. Let's blame the people. They will never support fringe left wing stuff like this....oh wait, they do.

OK...let's see....

Here we go: if we help the wealthy and powerful people, prosperity will trickle down to us. The market may not be perfect, but so far no one has come up with anything better. Whatever is good for Wall Street is good for America!

There. I bet we can win with that program. And winning is the most important thing, right? If we aren't in office, we can't do anything.

11. There are better ways to deal with refinancing mortgages than
doing it in bankruptcy courts. Bankruptcy judges have political viewpoints just like everybody else. You get a liberal judge, you get a good deal. You get a conservative judge, you get a bad deal. That's not the solution. The government should directly do work-outs that borrowers can afford. All you have to do is to extend the loan in terms of time for paying it off. Borrowers deserve consistency. The bankruptcy courts should not have that much power.

10. No taxation without representation
The AP poll and the Rassmussen poll show only about 30% of Americans in favor of a bailout.
