How will McCain's awkward pandering to Veterans go over?
He voted against the GI Bill, and hasn't really had that good of a record on balance, has he?

How about playing the POW card? Will this make that group more upset? Will they start getting M$M coverage, like the Swiftboat Vets did?

1. My Republican friend wonder outloud why McCain felt the need to pander so to the vets.

I told him he had votes against Vet funding. My friend seemed unaware of any Vet issues.

2. Vets, especially Iraq vets , are against McCain. He has voted
against every bill supporting vets that has come down the pike. I read about it recently . McCain has flat out lied about how he supports the vets. Disgraceful. I'll bet that little creep has not told the truth in his whole life.

6. Could that be the reason he sounded so very uncomfortable as he was saying it?
It was uncomfortable to watch... at least for me... thinking of the run-ins he's had at his campaign rallies... and how he's handledd them, too, let's not forget.

3. McCain's emotion-based sound bites
According to conservatives liberals are the party of feel-good, non-thinking politics.

That's funny, because tonite, McCain's debate was based on trying to manipulate people emotionally. The vet bracelet story, heart wrenching appeal of "the soldiers trust me and I'll take care of them" line.

He did not speak of action or plans. And he is so syrupy transparently phony. It's creepy. That soft emotional pleading. It's almost Mr. Burns- esque.

8. Yup... he did that every time he mentioned Veterans
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 11:38 PM by redqueen
and it seemed very ham-handed and put-on... to me at least. So much that I was uncomfortable listening to it.

It seemed like it might not be nice to hear for those Vets who aren't such fans of McCain's actions in the Senate.

4. Republicans are the first to want to use the military
for their wars but the last to know or want to know how to take care of them when they are hurt fighting their wars.

5. It won't.
To the obedient GOP voters his reiteration of "they know me" is code for "disregard anything new you might hear".

BUt, the veterans "you know me" will mean something very different.

I cannot wait for their response ads.

11. Obama wimps out
Obama missed every chance to go for the jugular. When the
hell are we going to get a candidate who can punch? That
veterans pandering was the perfect opening. There he was the
old evil bastard with his faked emotion leaving himself wide
open for the knockout punch with his 26 years of voting
against veterans benefits with typical officer country disdain
for military personnel. And Obama let him get away with it.
Half the debate about stupid earmarks and his idiocy is still
using the bear story even though he got the amount wrong and
doesn't know it was spent over several years to fulfill
a mandate under the endangered species act. And again Obama
didn't pull the dam trigger. When you are combating pure evil
you need all the armor (and ammo) you can get. Still I have to
give Obama some credit for hitting him with being wrong on
Iraq. This has already cost more like 2 or 3 trillion. Hit
them hard and keep punching and we can win this thing. I
believe Obama is too afraid of appearing like an angry black
man. If your not angry after 8 years of this shit your a flat
liner.
Hopefully he's like Ali was in the first round often.

Not calling McCain out on his record here might have been a misstep... might not have been. It sure won't be the end of the campaign so chill.

17. "When you are combating pure evil...."
I like your way with words, because that's exactly what's going on here. But Obama doesn't need to come off angry, in order to be firm. He just needs to counter all the bullshit McSame throws at him--swiftly and concisely.

18. Go watch how Ali fights
It was art to watch Ali fight. It is very obvious to me that Obama has taken a lesson from him. Just you wait and relax a bit. He's got this.

Take all that energy right down to headquarters and get to work for this man to help assure that we have a chance to get out of this repiglican quagmire.

12. Well...
...if they don't mind him constantly referring to himself as "the Maverick" maybe it will work. Maybe Obama should start calling himself "the Iceman"; IMHO Val Kilmer > Tom Cruise.

15. Don't forget that he's 'Miss NOT Congeniality' too!
Considering that video of his running mate simpering in a swimsuit and high heels just surfaced today, I thought it was ODD of McNickname to keep harping on that. You'd think he'd want to erase all thoughts of beauty pageants from voters minds. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the dirty old pervert calls her 'Goose' based on what he'd like to do to her Miss Wasilla rump.

And welcome to DU! :hi:
