5. But McCain opened that door - talking about fixed-bid contracts.
Then coming back later to talk about slashing everything BUT defense!

Seemed like the perfect in, but I guess it's not on the platform.

4. Yes. Without a doubt.
This is most definitely NOT the time to be talking about cutting the defense budget. I don't judge that it will be for quite some time.

7. It would destroy us.
Getting out of Iraq is a big enough military spending cut by itself. No need to push the limit.

10. Having had a son in Iraq for a year
and the possibility of him going back, I am not for cutting defense until they bring the troops home. Sorry.

way to work in a bipartisan way to fix the economy.

Open the door a little wider, and get them to come to us. A little horse-trading behind closed doors, and maybe this could get done. Both groups of supporters would have to keep pushing the issue, though... not sure how many republicans would be swamping congress with calls to follow McCain's suggestion to cut the Defense Budget.

14. That's what got me thinking about it...
he opened the door with his talk of fixed-bid contracts, then shut it right back with his plan to slash everything but defense.

Seemes like a perfect opportunity to do exactly what you're suggesting.

17. The important thing is to keep framing it as McCain's Plan To Cut The Defense Budget.
Followed by lurid descriptions of the eye-popping sums that flow like a river into the Pentagon.

And that bothers me a GREAT deal because if I were king it's the first thing I would do. If we start talking about it now though, the public will crucify us. We cannot win the presidency with that in the platform in any major way.

15. Mccain cited a military project as wasteful spending. Yet doesn't want to cut the budget.
There is billions upon billions of wasteful spending in Iraq alone. But most of that waste is going to Halliburton, KBR, and Bush family friends and business associates in the Middle east.
