My mother, may she rest in peace, would beg to differ. Regional speech is precious and should be preserved as long as it doesn't obscure meaning. I don't say warsh but am fine with those who do.

I have no problem with accents or colloquialism, but this one sounds like nails on a chalk board to me;

9. Where I grew up we celebrated George Warshington's birthday and harvested squarsh from our gardens

in the fall. It is definitely regional dialect, yes. Took me a long time to put an "r" into February and leave it out of "Washington."

It's right up the with "nukular" in my book. Yeah, I know, one is a regional thing whereas the other is complete stupidity but still.
