I recall the buzz here when Jack Cafferty first went to CNN
I don't know if it was the majority view, but I recall pretty clearly a number of people expressing disappointment in him. I recall him being viewed as some right wing mouthpiece.

1. He needs his own show
Man tells it like it is. If that means he has to burn a few Dems along the way...so be it.

5. He has integrity
Although you might not always agree with his politics, this guy doesn't stand for bullshit. I respect that.

I really don't mind people who lean right as long as they are true to their beliefs. What I can't stand is people who compromise their beliefs to support the politics of the moment, like so many conservatives.

7. Yup, for years.
And he played it right down the middle back then and was pretty funny as well.

11. Yeah, he goes way back in New York

I'm not familiar with his last 10 or 15 years or so, but he was on WNBC as anchor and also as cohost of some sort of talk show with a guy named Scarborough .... Mike Scarborough?

Pretty much a boring straight shooter back then.

edit: :snap: **Chuck** Scarborough! Who is still and WNBC.

In fact, I think he was a conservative, but has been disgusted with Republicans for quite a while, at least since the Iraq war. The period you're referring to was probably shortly after 9/11, when I think for a brief while Cafferty was swept up in the pro-war hysteria.
