NY policeman admits sexual contact with teen

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - A former suburban police sergeant who is married to a New York City anchorwoman admitted in court Friday that he used his authority to have sexual contact with a 17-year-old girl.

Ex-Sgt. David Rodriguez pleaded guilty to official misconduct. His wife, Darlene Rodriguez, did not accompany him to court, and was seen on WNBC-TV Friday morning.

After her husband was charged in March, she said, "I'm here to support my husband. I believe in him. I love him. He's innocent 100 percent."

Rodriguez was among the officers who arrested the girl's boyfriend on a domestic violence charge Feb. 8. She claimed he returned later, alone and off-duty, and raped her.

3. This is a horrible local story here. Big, because it not only involves a police officer

but that he is the husband of NY's NBC morning news anchor. I happen to enjoy watching Darlene Rodriguez.

The crime really is heinous. The girl was 17 living with the 34 year old father of her child. She seeks the police to help her only to be victimized once again by someone's whose job is to protect her. Totally disgusting. I am so sorry that this was plead out and that he won't be serving time for rape.

I am also so sorry for his wife Darlene and her children, whose own lives can never be the same again.

I don't believe there was forensic evidence of rape but the young woman was able to identify an anomaly on his penis. That's how they were able to arrest him.

I'm serious. As part of my job, I have Google set up to search for "officer arrested OR officer charged OR officer convicted OR officer sentenced," and that kind of thing pops up with disturbing frequency. Along with drunk driving cops, domestic abusing cops, and cops ensnared in drug war corruption (which is what I'm actually looking for).
