is it that we don't ever get very good candidates or what? Just curious. It's been a long time since there was a Dem mayor in a highly democratic city. And yes, I know that Bloomberg is a former Democrat.
1. Rudy slipped in for a couple terms and did the Disneyfication of Times
Square thing, and Bloomberg barely defeated Mark Green in the next race after Giuliani, then coasted to a strong win for his second term.
No conservative Republican can be elected there -- both Giuliani and Bloomberg had to have far more liberal positions to be elected than Republicans would almost anyplace else in the country.
And I think next time a Democrat will take it by a wide margin.
...Mark Green by using 9/11 as a scare tactic and Guliani won not because he was a republican but because he broke up the mob when he was attorney general.
They changed parties, I believe, because they didn't have the party support - they were not the heir apparent so they gamed the system.
...and partly the Republicans recruiting the likes of Guliani and Bloomberg because they were not politically active before and didn't rise through the ranks of the democratic party.

and Rudy's victory perfectly coincided so he could ride the wave of nationwide crime reduction at the same time he took EFFECTIVE steps in bringing down NYCs. - i.e. actually penalizing CRIMINALS.
constant infighting with factions within the Democratic party in NYC. It's about the power and each faction wants their control. This lets the liberal type R's get in office.
