Apparently 44 people thought they were. Check out this petition:

C. FEMMENINO this commercial is the most offensive overt racism I have seen on tv, it should not be tolerated.
Andrew Meaney Very offensive.
James Guymon The WAMU commercials in discussion are blatantly and unapologetically racist. The possible defense that the white men's age belies a symbolic representation of the old way of thinking versus the new, young, fresh, smart, diverse, enlightened path is even more offensive upon further inspection than is obvious surface-level attack on an entire race of people. It goes beyond positing that it is par for the course for old white men to greedily bleed poor miorities without conscious -- it reaches further, accusing everyone considered "white" of participation in a conspiracy going back generations -- embroiling all of us in a horrible and nasty tradition that defines us culturally. I detest and reject the implication that a key characteristic -- a defining characteristic-- of being a financially successful white man is the objectification and ambivalent abuse of blacks and hispanics. This cultural attack from WAMU is far worse than the misstatements of Don Imus, and punishment should reflect that. I for one will do no business with WAMU.
Rick How do they get away with this direct and insensative attack! Boycott Washington Mutual!!
Rose It is about time someone spoke up about those commercials! Thank you Chris. They not only portray white people to be greedy, but also simple minded and child-like.
David Peterson Are there no rich, stodgy, successful, older black, asian, hispanic men or women in the banking industry? Washington Mutual seems to think there aren't any. Washington Mutual really offends with this line of advertising.
Max Cooper Many a great commedian has poked at the reverse racism and how society lets it slip through, while screaming "THAT'S RACIST" at someone who might not have meant something negative demenor, from a majority, to a minority group. While I do agree with the commercial in the ways some banks try to screw you over, this is a blattant attack against many people in the banking and financial industry, who mean no harm or greed.
Guy F*CK U WAMU. I WILL NEVER GIVE YOU ONE DIME OF MY MONEY!!!!
Anonymous I support this petition. If you do too, then sign this as well, AND Do the following if/when you receive mail credit card/account offers from WaMu...... Respond to their offer by placing a note in their "No Postage Necessary - Business Reply Mail" which states something along the lines of "Your commercials are racist and sexist. Mix in a few Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Indians or women behind those red ropes and I'll apply for your card. Otherwise, you'll get this note back EVERYTIME you mail me something, and it will only cost you more money. Ha." Thanks -Moe
Kenneth R. Yackel this shit needs to stop
TOM CROSS I agree the commercials are offensive.
Philip Holmes Here's a way to get WAMU. Don't close your account. Leave .05 cents in your free checking and let them have to send you statements for years.
Branimir Iliev WAMU is the worst bank I ever banked at. Avoid them at all costs.
roderick a. granado BOYCOTT WAMU!!!
Lisa I cannot believe what they are getting away with! This is so wrong and I am definitely boycotting WaMu!
Pat Williams I agree with your view on the WaMu commercials. People of color are quick to point the finger when they are portrayed in a bad light but when the tables are turned the white community is expected to just sit by and take it. People of color want everyone to treat them fairly, don't other groups deserve the same respect?
Ed Penn Its bad enough every commercial has a minority checklist these days but these Wamu commercials are plain ridiculous. Signed.
Dean Stark If they are really not intending any harm or insult than they would have included some other person besides white male in the commercial by now as they are no doubt aware of the issue.
Todd Engle disgusting commercial....but Washington Mutual is getting the "buzz" they want any way they can get it apparently.
Anonymous The line has to be drawn for racism against whites....this company should and will be boycotted.
Anonymous I find these commercials very offensive.
joshua reece I am so happy others feel this way. The first time I saw this I immeadiatly asked myself, would they show 20 fat old naked black men huddled together, like imobsils' taking banking advice from a pubescent little whitey? The answer is clearly NO. They would have been sued at least a thousand times. This is the worst case of racism I have seen in my lifetime!
Rich Brooks I will boycott Washington Mutual, and encourage my acquaintances to do so as well, until these offensive commercials are altered or removed.
Susan I emailed WAMU some months back to voice my disgust with their advertising and got a similar response that they gave this site. I will NEVER bank with this organization and tell everyone not to as well. Imagine what would happen if the "bad" guys in their commercials were black with a white "hip" dude! They would have NEVER made it to the airwaves.
Jay Definately offensive and racist commericals. The test would be if the races were switched. The black community would be outraged.
Kathy Gardner Thank you!!! I sent emails (more than one, I assure you!) to "WaMu" concerning their BLATANTLY RACIST commercials, and they sent me virtually the same ridiculous and blowing-off response that they did you. No one can, with any intellectual honesty, argue that IF these commercials showed a white man mocking a large group of ONLY black men, this would not only be unacceptable, but we'd see quite a showing in the news from black leaders against such ads. Funny, how not even ONE person thought, as they were making these ads, hey maybe we should include just ONE minority in there, 'cause it seems a little racist. And by the way, if you're merely calling them "stodgy," that TOO IS AN INSULT! So what's the difference??!! Also, clearly, "WaMu" is trying to appeal to the so-called black community (as though all blacks think the same - how stupid!). I, personally, believe these commercials are not only racist towards whites, but they are also insulting to blacks. Every black person I know who's seen them and we've discussed them, hates them as much as I do, because it's just a blatant attempt to get business from blacks. Washington Mutual (oh, I?m sorry, ?WaMu?) should be ashamed!!!! Oh wait, but I forgot, making fun of whites is okay, right?
Mikeyfart Damn, soon we're gonna have to worry about getting AIDS from WAMU ATM machines.
Eric I'm tired of white men being portrayed like idiots on tv.
Robert Wayne There's no way I would bank with these jokers. They obviously use a black banker as the "smart, intelligent" one and the white bankers as complete imbeciles because they know if the tables were turned the other way that every black troublemaker from Sharpton to Farrakhan would be starting riots all over the place. It's time whites stop being such weasles when it comes to dealing with others and start raising hell the way blacks and mexicans do over every perceived slight.
rich M. aint wamu so proud of all the black people they lent to now?
