It doesn't help that much if I still have to open those threads. I mean, as long as the must read and the rec. threads are marked, it can't be that much trouble to mark the others as well.

1. What if trolls come along and mark really good threads as
"skip it", "disruptive" and "average"?

3. I don't know.
What if they mark disruptive threads as must read.

I guess I don't hate the new system yet, but in some ways it's not that user friendly - for me, anyway.

4. It doesn't take a troll to do that.
The first folks to read a thread aren't always the brightest. Good posts will be missed with this system. In fact I regard it as an odd kind of way to measure the merit of an idea.

6. Since the admins have access as to how individuals vote in polls
I would assume they could also spot trolls by how they vote on the recommends.

7. It's called "democracy". You rely on the good people to outnumber the bad....
Yes I realize that's a scary idea in America.

8. Thats precisely why I dont like a ratings system
Yahoo Finance changed three years ago from a Recommend style like we had here up until yesterday to one that used a 5 star Ratings system.

Most every informative post on important news about the stock the board is supposed to discuss now gets 1 star from short sellers and/or a hedge fund shorting that stock, taking advantage of Yahoo's board default settings where "1 star or less" gets filtered out so you dont see it.

It wouldnt take much for a large group of Freepers to register here, not to post, but to just low rate important posts.

11. Skinner- if you read this, I concur with the OP.
If a large number of people are all saying "skip it" or "disruptive" and I don't know until I've already clicked on the thread to read it, what's the point?

I agree that I don't want to see a lot of orange, yellow, and red in the column, it's too distracting.

But how about you just have the tag but keep it grayed out?

Fair compromise, no?
