You can send your own letter to your senators and rep
here. Here's the text of mine:
Since 1992, Republicans have become more and more brazen with their heisting of the treasury and abridgment of the Constitution. The Congressional Record lays out a sorry and indelible tale of greed, cronyism, anti-American legislation, arrogant class warfare, and a record of which any decent, God-fearing human being should rightly be ashamed. That is, if she or he had any decency, humanity, or shame at all.
Rather than having decent shame and remorse, the worst offenders are now sticking their hands out for more. Their pet senators, handsomely rewarded with the largesse of the banking, telecomm, and investment industries (you know who you are -- we do) plus K Street bonuses (yes, we know who was on Abramoff's payroll, as well) are currently running insane and demonstrably untruthful ads on TV, decrying "tax and spend Democrats", even going so far as to make up lies about other candidates' records.
QED, truth and Republicans are quite the strangers.
How, and I demand a frank answer, is responsible collection and expenditure somehow worse than the Republicans' demonstrated penchant for "pilfer and embezzle"? How is it that the ones who only as little as four years ago ran on such towering platforms of being (and I quote one such nauseating ad) "a good Christian and a strong conservative" could be so ready to stuff their own and their cronies' pockets at the expense of the less fortunate -- whom Jesus so explicitly commanded us to care for, time and time again.
You're not fooling us.
This time, not only are we watching the letter of the legislation and the vote, but I for one stand ready to email a detailed account to EVERY member of my very lengthy address book -- regardless of party affiliation. When they understand the impact of the proposed giveaway to Goldman-Sachs by a former Goldman-Sachs insider, even the most ardent Republican members of my family will have their heads explode.
I can positively guarantee it.
The roots on both sides of my family go over 300 years deep into NC soil -- I have a very, very large extended family, from Manteo to Brasstown. My addressbook of cousins ALONE is over 300 entries. I promise you, I will write each and every one.
On Edit: I forgot to mention that this form also lets you sign a petition to be delivered to members of Congress registering your opposition to Paulson's request for a blank check.
