Welcome to Obama, Calif.
Olema resident Kelly Emery's sign of the times is stirring up a bit of small-town political excitement.

The 48-year-old Emery — a supporter of Sen. Barack Obama for president — installed a road sign outside her Olema Cottages bed and breakfast on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard this week that mimics other town limit signs, except that it renames the area "Obama."

1. There are a LOT of reich-wing haters posting comments there.
Racists, bigots, redneck-yahoos...ugh!

Ignorance and fear are what they're made of. I guess it's part of their genetic makeup...

2. I think you responded to the wrong OP - nothing wrong
with this post. Marin County is one of the bluest parts of Northern California, especially that area along Sir Francis Drake. This is a cute idea and I love the little rainbow sig in the crossing guy's head! The whole town love's Obama. Now if I did this in my town they'ed be coming after me with the dogs to hunt me down!

3. No, I don't think I did. I was referring to the paper where the link...
...takes you. You can comment on the article there and I'm telling you, it drew out some really mean right-wingers making nasty comments about Obama, liberals, and the artist.

'Obama' Olema sign taken down
Staff Report
Article Launched: 09/22/2008 04:00:51 PM PDT

A handmade green road sign erected last week that renamed Olema as "Obama" was removed amid complaints of confusion.

Kelly Emery, who created the pseudo town limit sign and installed it in front of her Olema Cottages bed and breakfast on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, said she took down the sign after a county employee visited the site in response to complaints.

The county representative told her people had complained the sign was causing confusion for people driving into the West Marin hamlet, Emery said.
