Top US general 'regrets' anti-gay comment
By Demetri Sevastopulo in Washington
Updated: 4 minutes ago

General Peter Pace, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, on Tuesday attempted to deflect criticism of his comments that homosexuality was "immoral" by saying his remarks reflected only his personal opinion.

Gen Pace stirred controversy by telling the Chicago Tribune that the military should not condone immoral acts, such as homosexual relations.

"I believe that homosexual acts between individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts," Gen Pace said in an interview with the paper.

After his remarks sparked an outcry from a diverse array of people, including gay activists, Democrats, and a senior Republican member of the Senate armed services committee, Gen Pace on Tuesday attempted to play down the criticism by saying the remarks reflected only his personal opinion.

"I should have focused more on my support of the policy and less on my personal moral views," he said.

2. My gay son-in-law (and no, I won't explain that contradiction)
served honorably in the military. Gays/lesbians have been in military service for ever. Their sexual orientation has nothing to do with bravery in defending their country or their patriotism.

Pace is a hateful bigot.

3. And this country regrets providing this man with tax-supported employment
Particularly when he uses his position to exhibit his religious beliefs. He apparently is more interested in serving the Vatican than the United States of America.

6. Abu Gharaib
Yeah, it's a good thing that we're keeping those queers out of this man's army. We want real men that will sexually humiliate prisoners (not to mention their own female comrades). :sarcasm:

I think they're just afraid of being treated by gay men the way that they've treated female servicemembers all of this time.

10. Man....if he just talks a bit more that genie will go back in the bottle.
He's a fucking bigot.

I don't care what kind of spin he wants to put on it, he displayed his bigotry to the masses for all to see.

He supports the policy BECAUSE of his personal "morality"...such as it is and has show throw his words that he cannot be trusted to make a rational decision based on that.

The bible he gets his "morality" from, also says that premarital sex is huge sin, but if this to wants to start drumming people out of the service every time they open their mouths bragging about the hot piece of tail they got last night while at the bar or in a port, they'd be hard pressed to have enough people left in the service to fill a single military base.

And believe you me, I served my time in the military and know damned well that premarital sex, adultery, divorce, lying and a host of other biblically immoral acts go on in the military so often it would make most people's heads swim.

The only question that is relevant is whether a person can perform their job and if their proclivities (be it a proclivity to sleep with any willing person of the same or opposite gender or any other inclination to do something) will interfere with the performance of the job.

He said it, he meant it. He should not even bother with his quasi-apology; it's pointless.
