Perceptions of America on overseas blogs
I read blogs from around the world, and the entry in this one about US tourism is depressingly familiar, especially the comments.

Will this long national nightmare ever end?

1. They Even Hassle American Citizens Returning From Canada!
My mom leads bus tours for her retirees group. They took a bus tour to Ottawa, Canada, to see their famous tulips last spring. When they were coming back into the States, the a**hole border guards on the American side (Detroit, perhaps? Or Niagara Falls?) hassled this bunch of senior citizens! It's appalling.

terror suspects. Look at all the documented acts of terrorism committed by little old ladies and elderly gents with hearing aides and canes. Why, I believe there have been zero thus far, but there's always the remote possibility grandma is an al qaeda operative.

TSA goons also enjoy ripping shoes off 90-year-olds at airports and subjecting them to patdowns. Wouldn't want anyone to feel left out of our crack "security" measures.

Tourists are no doubt staying away for a variety of reasons, but the monumental stupidity of our so-called "security" system can't be helping.

2. They're afraid of us
Not too surprising, really. I'm afraid of us.

3. It is less fear, re the citizens of other countries, than it is sheer
disgust, imo.
