SC-Sen: Huh?
http://swingstateproject.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3121

Rasmussen (9/18, likely voters):

Bob Conley (D): 41
Lindsey Graham (R-inc): 50
(MoE: ±4.5%)
Bob Conley, the Democratic candidate for Senate in South Carolina against Lindsey Graham, is sort of the flip side of Bob Kelleher, the Republican Senate candidate in Montana: a quaint eccentric with no institutional support and who's way out of step with his ostensible party. Conley was a member of the Horry County Republican Committee before seeking the Democratic nomination. He voted for Ron Paul in the primaries, and, consistent with that, is running a paleo-con "America First" campaign that, according to his own campaign website, is "well to right." (Check out the precision of his flap-top; he makes Jon Tester look like Sideshow Bob.)

Rasmussen just polled this race for the first time, and to probably everyone's surprise, it shows Conley within 9 points of Graham, who's right at the 50% mark. I'm not sure whether this odd result reflects more poorly on Rasmussen (who also found an edge of only 51 McCain-46 Obama from the same sample... which may be fishy, or may be a leading indicator of the blue wave seeping down from Virginia into the Carolinas) or on Graham, who's never had much luck at wooing social conservatives. Don't look for the parties to get involved in this one, though, even if further polling continues to bear out these numbers.

1. Conley's one of those "play it safe" Dems...
running as a conservative in an ultra-conservative state. This is a case where I'll have to hold my nose and vote for him anyway. Graham is a disgrace.

There is no telling what will be going on at any one time. Lindsey Graham is not beloved in the state.Graham, who was first elected to the Senate in 2002, is viewed favorably by 52% of the state’s voters. Thirty-eight percent (38%) have an unfavorable view. Conley is viewed favorably by 42%, and unfavorably by 32%. Twenty-five percent (25%) have no opinion of him.

Grahamster just has a R after his name. As for Conley, here is one statement:
Conley, who supported Republican Ron Paul in January’s GOP presidential primary, said Clyburn’s comments make “it clear that the Democratic Party, at least in South Carolina, is controlled by the far left who feel no need to be inclusive when they’ve got a liberal Republican like Graham apparently on their side.”

Conley is a loon. He thinks Grahamster is a liberal Republican. I will probably vote for Conley, but I'm reading his positions carefully.
He can't be any worse than Grahamster or Thurmond.

6. Uggghhh. Just had a look at that. What a choice the S. Carolinians have...
if I lived there, I think I'd write in my neighbour's cat!

At least Thurmond isn't sentator there any longer.

Thank you very much. Strom and Pitchfork Ben Tillman are polling equally well.
I'll bet Thurmond does get some write-ins.:hi:

7. How is Thurmond's headstone polling?
Will it be on the ballot, or will people have to write it in?

8. Graham is a mush-mouthed ass clown
I'm surprised the bastard wasn't tarred, feathered, and run out on a rail when he returned from an Iraq trip (with McCain) and bragged about getting persian rugs for five bucks apiece. This is the same asshole that has sat by and watched as the textile industry packed up and left SC.
