Everyone with 2 braincells saw this coming as a result of deregulation
since the regulation being scrapped had been created as a response to the previous rapine, pillage, and crash!

So, given that everyone with a functioning brain knew it was going to happen, WHERE WERE THE DEMS? Why didn't they stop deregulation, or at the very least die trying? Why did they go along?

Does anyone REALLY believe that they're going to do anything now except knuckle under again? Maybe a few cosmetics, but no substance. Anyone?

1. We told them so. Hell, Warren Buffet told them so.
I want the greedy bastards to hand over all assets earned as bonus incentives to buy and market these crap securities. We are talking bonuses in the range of $17 million a year, which is what a Bear Stearns department head was making even before the bubble inflated.

I want their Lexus car keys. I want the deeds to the Hawaii summer homes and the skiing cottage in Aspen. I want all their jets on eBay.

3. What I see is
that these so-called "rugged individuals" (to use Rush Limp-ball's term) are attempting to evade the very punishment that the free market dictates they deserve.

Sure, they love the free market while it's booming But as soon as it busts (due to their own irresponsibility) they come running to the taxpayers to bail them out.

"Private profits, public losses."

9. makes sense to me...
these are standards that most of us require for our children...
accountability, responsibility, and consequences seem much more fair than punitive to me.

4. Where were the Dems?
Everyone with two brain cells knows that they were sitting at the house waiting for the check to come in the mail.

10. That doesn't seem like a correction to me. I think you were right the first time.
There's nothing easier than to buddy up with the GOP and say "look, we have to vote against this, so how can we set it up so that it passes but we look okay to the stupes?" And so they rig it up between them.

Had the Dems *really* wanted to stop it, they'd have been using their free mailing privs to flood everyone's mailboxes with repeated warnings about trillion-dollar giveaways. But they didn't, so they merely voted against it on the (arranged to be) "losing" side.

It's like the caging lists and the disenfranchisement of Black people. If the Dems really cared, they'd have actually DONE something about it, such as raising continuous hell as a bare minimum. But they don't care. They've got theirs.

8. It reminds me of the Watergate reforms.
Those reforms were put in place to prevent another Nixon debacle. The Republicans had them all removed and look what we got.

Specific economic reforms were put in place to prevent another Depression. The Republicans had them all removed and look what we got.

Conservative. Ideas. Don't. Work. Period.
