According to Talking Points Memo, The Republicans have no intention of making any regulatory changes.

House Republican staffers met with roughly 15 lobbyists Friday afternoon, whose message to lawmakers was clear: Don't load the legislation up with provisions not directly related to the crisis, or regulatory measures the industry has long opposed.

"We're opposed to adding provisions that will affect undermine the deal substantively," said Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government affairs at the Financial Services Roundtable, whose members include the nation's largest banks, securities firms and insurers.

A deal killer for the group: a proposal that would grant bankruptcy judges new powers to lower the principal, interest rate or both on a mortgage as part of a bankruptcy proceeding.

Also please note that this bail-out will not be subject to any court review.

Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.

So our Democratic lawmakers are proposing not only giving Mr. Paulson, a Republican dedicated to deregulation, a free hand with $700 billion of our dollars, he cannot be held accountable in any court of law or to any administrative agency for what he does with that money.

WRITE YOUR SENATORS AND CONGRESSPEOPLE TODAY! Make it clear that if they do not do what's right for the American people, if they do not protect our interests, THEY SHOULD NOT EVEN BOTHER RUNNING NEXT TIME.

1. The more I think about the shit they're trying to pull, the more outraged I get.
Thanks for posting this link -- I immediately made use of it and wrote to both my Senators and my Representative. I told them that I KNOW we're being lied to, that we are being robbed blind, and that they damn well better stop this bail-out bill.

I am SO pissed!

12. I have found him to be a very down to earth and "in tune" with
requests, letters and phone calls to his office. I always get a reply. I live in senior housing in downtown West Palm. We are not wealthy by any means but are "comfortable."...LOL. Anyway, he did not feel we were too old or not wealthy enough to come visit us in our Community Room. Even the Repugs in the room loved him. He's quite charming and speaks on issues concerning us. He's still as you remember him, only better....

8. Thanks....here's my response to Sen. McConnell (R-Ky)
Honorable Sen. McConnell.

It has come to my attention that legislation before Congress to bailout the rich oligarchs that ran amok with investment money includes the following text:

Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.

Is it not unconstitutional for Congress to pass any law whereby that law is not reviewable by any court in this land?

Whatever happened to our wonderful system of checks and balances between the various branches of government?

What saddens me is that our Congress and this administration have no qualms with giving a trillion dollars in handouts and welfare to a select few investment houses and insurance companies but cannot educate its population nor provide them healthcare nor provide direct relief to those affected by the criminals on Wall Street (the ones losing their homes)

Do the right thing, Senator, and send this legislation to where it belongs: the trash bin.

To paraphrase that pioneer of free market thought, von Mises:

To intervene in a situation that itself was the result of a prior intervention often leads to the opposite desired result.

Every move made by the Federal Reserve and this administration to save what cannot be saved has only served to worsen the situation and now it is directly affecting the taxpayer through skyrocketing national debt and soon to be hyperinflation.

Thank you.

16. I just called them all
I think I sounded like a nut- I am so angry my voice is shaking.

To give more power to incompetent people whose policies got us into this mess is an OUTRAGE

I told them all I have been working in the Obama campaign for months and I intend to let everyone I know and every voter I come into contact with just how THEY have voted on this proposal. More power to people whose lack of oversight and free market mantras got us into this mess? No accountability and no transparency? What about the constitution they swore to uphold? WHy are they listening to the lobbyist of FOREIGN banks over the people?

I have never bought a business nor run a business without careful scrutiny of the books and financials and I have no intention of doing so now; as they use my tax dollars, after letting me lose my life savings in the "free market" crash, to bail out the friends of the people who landed us square in this mess.

No thanks.

OVERSIGHT REGULATION ACCOUNTABILITY and TRANSPARENCY or BUST!!!!!!!!
