Another rant about McCain supporters
It seems that I live in a sea of them! It seems that everyone I work with is a McCain FOX news snorting repuke! It is so depressing to me you cannot even imagine. Every day now that we are closer to the election, I get some sort of commentary from a person who previously did not proclaim their political persuasion, and rightfully so in the workplace, that pegs them.

Yesterday it was a woman who started off like this. "I used to listen to XYZ radio, but they are not giving balanced viewpoints so I switched to FOX because they always tell both sides of the story". I am like uh-oh, but continue to listen. "I heard yesterday that the jobless claims are false, because the only people who are jobless are people who don't want to work".

So my reply was that .. hmmm.. you know sweeping statements and generalities like that are seldom true. And I went on to discuss a personal story of a woman in her 60's who has had to work two jobs just to make ends meet.. and her son-in-law who was laid off twice, who has small children to take care of, and the woman's comments to me about what were hey going to do?

Is this a woman who doesn't want to work? Is her son someone who doesn't want to work? I said sometimes you need to pay attention to real life people, not the generalities.

Well.. the woman changed the subject to the high cost of child care, which I was grateful for. But also this woman didn't seem to even know about the financial crisis. Nadda.

Sorry folks but it is really depressing me. Glad I have DU.

1. A client asked a massage therapist friend of mine
what she thought of Sarah Palin. My friend said she was no Hillary Clinton, and that she had supported Clinton. End of discussion.

3. simple question to ask mccainiacs and palinites
"what is the difference between mccain's economic policy and bush's?"

more likely than not - their answer will start with "Well, Obama _______"

let them go on, and then say "I know how Obama's policy differs from bush's, but I asked you how McCain's is different"

keep pressing them to tell you how mccain isn't bush, don't get into a position of defending obama, and don't tell them how mccain is the same - MAKE THEM TELL YOU HOW MCCAIN IS DIFFERENT

5. Great advice, and simple to follow!
Thank you! I need better strategies for dealing with these arguments. I have read others brilliant come backs on DU and it always inspires me.
