You know that commercial that was funny the first hundred times you saw it?
The Geico girl? Comcast's Slowski turtles? The Swiffer-rejected mop? John MacEnroe yelling over breakfast? The Gecko? The Cavemen?

You know those?

They're kinda what's happening with Palin.

She doesn't wear well at all ..... except for a few points above the backwash portion of the population. She is coming off more like that Miss Whoever giving that lame answer we all howled about a few months back. She's verbatim repetitious (which also sounds very dumb). Her voice started kinda quirky and now it is simply grating.

In short .... she's falling fast and the rate of fall accelerates with the frequency of her appearances.

Back to those commercials .... are they not the same phenomenon, really?

Can we call that the Palin Phenomenon?

1. She wore out her welcome with me the moment she opened her mouth...
But I STILL love the Slowskis! :)

2. I think it's 14 minutes 30 seconds on her 15 minutes of fame.
I'm seriously glad to see that the more exposure she gets, the less people like her.

Hell, by November she should be thoroughly hated and despised. Couldn't happen to a better person.

3. Yup...
After a while she starts to remind you of the boss that made you seek a transfer or the neighbor that prompted you to frequent realtor.com.

4. Naaaaaaaawwwwwwww, that's just not it
because the Slowski turtles are still interesting, the GEICO girl disappears quickly, the mop has great music, John McEnroe's expression is always worth waiting for, the gecko is adorable (especially when he's trying to find the jellyfish's face or getting the otter to share his clams with him), and the cavemen, well, any day now, one of them is going to flip out and kill someone, so that's worth waiting for.

Palin is just a bad cultural phenomenon that won't last nearly as long as the gecko.

Palin now shares, along with Fuckface and Dickless, the honor of not being allowed in this home. No visages, no voice.

5. Her phony stump speech is a joke...
...but the idea of her getting control of nuclear weapons isn't.

I donated another $300 to Obama-Biden after I had thought I was done donating for the year because I don't trust Sarah Palin (a "Last Days" religious extremist) with nuclear weapons.

7. The Palin count on DU is way down.
Thank Jeebus! Now she's kinda boring, though I do like the Sara Benincasa videos.

8. True. But all McCan't really has to do is find something else...
...in the last week of October to delight and distract the booboisie, i.e. The "swing" voters. ( I'm beginning to think they're "swinging" from *trees*. Really, how could even minimally educated people be undecided at this point?)

Palin's fading fast it seems, but there are attractive novelties in the pipeline, be sure of it. The easily dazzled among us are forever on the lookout for the "new and improved".

And maybe just "new" will be enough. McCain just need a short spike for a short time.

9. Not really. The commercials are inoffensive and become familiar
sort of like the guy at work we're really not all that nuts about but gosh, he's a nice guy but we make the effort to be nice back to him.

The Palin phenomenon is a little different and has to do with what happens when she opens her mouth.

She screeches.

Now I know we'd all like to live in the kind of country where people read about the issues and make informed decisions on election day. We don't. We live in a country where people decide who to vote for on the basis of how his wife dresses or whether or not he looks like somebody at the corner bar or if the other guy uses words that make him sound like some smart college kid boss whose guts we hate.

She has an unfortunate voice. I've had people tell me she reminds them of ex wives, psycho ex girlfriends, mothers in law, and other unpleasant females in their lives.

This is the Palin effect. She could be the most competent and well educated executive in the country and her star would still be dimming and burning to ashes. She's not, but that's beside the point. She is simply not someone people want to see and hear for the next four years.

Every time she appears on a news show, she'll lose approval points. It has nothing to do with what she says.

It's the screech.

10. So what we do next is to just start ignoring her.
Treat her like last month's flavour, which is how the media is starting to portray her.

12. She's the "Head-On...Apply Directly To The Forehead" of political acts.
Grabs your attention for a short while, but soon makes you want to puncture your own eardrums for self-preservation.

14. She's annoying like the guy who started with the Oxi Clean commercials.
He's now doing commercials for every trinket out there & today I saw him doing a commercial for "affordable health insurance." You know the guy - he yells the whole time. He was annoying the first time & just gets worse - just like Palin.
