19. Ah, I don't. Smacks of sexism (marginalizing her because of her looks)
I prefer "Moose-alini" myself! Not gender-specific and describes her behavior, rather than some shallow aspect. We have to be consistent in our views, after all...

Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 06:26 PM by jpgray
Are you saying it's dismissive or sexist? It could be in some cases, but isn't always. Campaign generally enjoys that degree of connection, "I like Ike" and all that yeah?

18. "Her own supporters do it." Right, and they aren't welcome here.
In fact, calling her by her first name is quite the opposite of "dismissive" and "sexist".

We shouldn't be doing it.

36. Kucinich fans do it with Dennis so they don't have to spell Kucinich.
As for Hillary, I was told that was so she wouldn't get confused with her husband. Probably a mistake on her part.

Sometimes I even forget what her real name is. I also call her a few other names when I hear her ungodly voice coming out of my TV, but I won't repeat any of those in this thread.

Hopefully after November 4, I'll never have to refer to the batshit crazy dominionazi lunatic by any name ever again.

17. you don't have a "I don't call her that"
choice. Sarah is a beautiful name with beautiful connotations...yeah okay, I named my own daughter Sarah...so no, I would never refer to that waste of a human by her first name. Moose or Palin are fine with me. Hillary was Hillary because "Clinton" was sort of taken already.

I use the last name as it's less ambiguous. I know of lots of Sarah's but before this creature appeared on the political landscape, I only knew of one Palin.

49. Palin, or Sarah Palin... but NEVER "Sarah".
Don't know her that well... and never want to.

I may bounce back and forth between "Hillary" and "Senator Clinton", but it's only because there are two famous Clintons. Not sure I even know "Pelosi's" first name.

I think it's now common to run a woman's first and last names together such as "BarbaraBoxer" if she wants her gender to be a major part of her professional or political identity. And of course, if she's one of two, like Senator Dole... the second.

But then again... she's not a VPILF in my book. And not just because of my het orientation. Maybe it makes a difference.

I think people who do call her by her first name are missing the psychological trick of making her appear friendly.
