What did the CNBC guy just say on NBC news?
I just heard the tail end where the guy said something about us being this close to being a banana republic and Brian Williams just said wow. What did I miss?

1. Banana Republic - from wikipedia
Frequently the subject of mockery and humour, and usually presided over by a dictatorial military junta that exaggerates its own power and importance —— a banana republic also typically has large wealth inequities, poor infrastructure, poor schools, a "backward" economy, low capital spending, a reliance on foreign capital and money printing, budget deficits, and a weakening currency. Banana republics are typically also highly prone to revolutions and coups.

3. Alaska is a prime example
most banana republics are exploited for their natural resources, enriching a few barons but leaving the populace with little but a despoiled natural environment

5. I still kick myself for not getting a Bush Brothers Banana Republic t-shirt a few years ago.
They have mugs and tote bags at Cafepress.
