1. It's not going full speed ahead.
My guess is the bridge will never be built. For what it's worth, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, which is where Wasilla is located, is the fastest-growing area of the state. Many people from Palmer and Wasilla commute into Anchorage every day, on the ONE highway that runs between that area and Anchorage. Theoretically, the bridge isn't a bad idea -- however, the cost is prohibitive, not to mention the logistics of dealing with the second highest tides in the world, and how to tie it into Anchorage's downtown.

The city council has basically tabled this for now.

3. We have a planning commission.

I think the AMATS that's referred to in the article are the ones in charge of that. What I'd like to know, though, is what the KABATA (Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority) has done with the $40 million they've already spent. They certainly don't have much to show for it.

4. you'd be better off with a commuter rail line linking the communities
than with another road.

but that sounds like communism, too.

5. A lot of people here are saying the same thing.
That's my personal preference. Something needs to be done, though, because the traffic out there on the Glenn Highway at rush hour is horrendous, especially in the winter.
