Spaingate? McCain's blunder about Spain spirals out of control.
This gaffe is really telling.
It’s clear that McCain thinks that NATO ally and Spanish president Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero is a dicey Latin American up-and-comer.

But that’s not what I find most disturbing about this clip of an exchange between McCain and a Spanish reporter. It’s that he’s clearly either hard of hearing or incredibly slow on the uptake.

She clearly says “Spain.” When McCain yammers on about allies in “this hemisphere,” the reporter redirects and says “I’m talking about Europe.” He does not process it.

1. Do not despair Spain
I am not sure he knows what is he talking about anymore. Looks like the desire to move to the White House is clouding's senator's mind. Do not despair Spain, in few days or may be few hours Mccain will change his position. After all he's done it many times before
See for your self:

3. Good. Just one more to add to the pile.
I am not confident, however, that the GOP-controlled media will give it the level of scrutiny and attention that it gave all that lipstick shit.

Maybe we on DU need to start making pictures of McCain mocking his stupidity about allies?

5. I think he panicked
when she said Europe. He clearly thought that Zapatero was a Latin American leader of some sort.

so his choice was "don't act like I don't know who this guy is... that would be bad."

And now the campaign is doubling down on this choice. Stupid.

30. I think there is something there also.
Another thing I've been thinking about, is that someone his age need tests all the time, like a colonoscopy, for which they one would get knocked out. Transferring power to the VP? Also all of the killer infections and fungi that have taken over the hospitals. At his age these are more likely to be lethal. He has something like a thousand pages of medical records from the last few years that reporters have been given almost no time to review. I want to know what meds. he is on. His finger is might be on the button, I would like to be reassured that he is not impaired. Back to the Alzheimer's,
Some one should edit clips of McCain over the years getting older and slower.

Talking point. Even heros get too old to lead.

7. Holy Shit. He confused Zapatero with the ZAPATISTAS in Mexico.
That's why he was talking about Calderon and the 'drug wars' in Mexico. The Zapatistas are struggling against the Mexican government and its corrupt involvement in drugs (which it is attempting to blame on the Zapatistas EZLN, who have nothing to do with drugs.)

8. Yup. That is why the reporter repeated the word Spain three times
and added that Spain is in Europe.

Something is going seriously wrong with McCain these days. That is probably why the RNC is trying to keep reporters away from him.

he still got it wrong.

12. He must be het up at Zapatero about his total disregard of the
anti-smoking law. I Googled Spain and politics and this was what I found:

Meanwhile, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero appears to have put his foot in it once again, this time with respect to the recent anti-smoking laws in Spain. Even though the general opinion regarding the new legislation seems to be more or less favourable, the extent to which the law restricts smoking in all places of work, public places and restricts the right of newsagents and unlicensed shops to sell tobacco has inevitably been criticised by pro-smoking groups and trade unions. Last week it emerged that during the meeting held between President Zapatero and Artur Mas, both party leaders spent the whole afternoon smoking while they negotiated. Apparantly it was Artur Mas himself who spilt the beans when he told colleagues in surprise that they had "smoked all afternoon" in the Moncloa (headquarters of the Spanish presidency and home to the President and his family) despite new the anti-tobacco restrictions.
