Troopergate is Hitting the Fan in Alaska....
per Thom Hartmann's show, McCain's campaign is twisting arms, threatening reporter's careers, and publicly attacking other Republicans speaking out against Palin.

2. Did you just hear the Senator saying that they are hearing that reporters
printing negative McCain stuff have been threatened with losing their jobs?

I got the impression this isn't widespread, but there has been pressure apparently.

3. Good! the reporters can report it and the Republicans can change sides
and now would be a good time to do it anyway if they anticipate having any kind of shelf life as a politician.

it was most likely a deal he had made with the religious right to garner their support$$$$

Of course, that's a theory I have.

18. Wish I had earmarked that page
read awhile back where they named five names of the people who choose her in a backroom during the Dem. Convention and at least 3-4 of them were top Religious Right Donors and Leaders. I am sure it is on the web somewhere. I will try to look.

recall her if you can in your state so when she comes home November 5th, she won't come home to the Governor's office.

24. Ed O'Callaghan
"O'Callaghan emerged publicly for the first time this week when he told reporters at a McCain campaign press conference, in Anchorage, that Palin is "unlikely to cooperate" with an Alaskan legislative inquiry into Monegan's firing because it had been "tainted" by politics. That new stand appeared to directly contradict a previous vow, expressed by her official gubernatorial spokesman on July 28, that Palin "will fully cooperate" with an investigation into the matter.

"But O'Callaghan (who resigned from the U.S. attorney's office at the end of July to join the McCain campaign) is doing more than just public relations when it comes to "troopergate." He told NEWSWEEK that he and another McCain campaign lawyer (whom he declined to identify) are serving as legal "consultants" to Thomas Van Flein, the Anchorage lawyer who at state expense is representing Palin and her office in the inquiry. "We are advising Thomas Van Flein on this matter to the extent that it impacts on the national campaign," he said. "I'm helping out on legal strategy." A McCain spokesman said Wednesday that, while Van Flein was originally hired last month by the Alaska Department of Law to represent Palin and her office, that arrangement has been changed over the past week and he is now being paid only by Palin and her husband — not state funds. He has not billed the state for his work, the spokesman said."

20. I Am In Awe Of McCain's Stupidity
This is his defense of Palin?

The last straw, the McCain campaign said, was in July, when Monegan planned to travel to Washington to seek federal money for a plan to assign troopers, judges and prosecutors who could exclusively handle sexual assault cases — one of the state's most intractable crime problems.

In a July 7 e-mail, John Katz, the governor's special counsel, noted two problems with the trip: The governor hadn't agreed the money should be sought, and the request was "out of sequence with our other appropriations requests and could put a strain on the evolving relationship between the Governor and Sen. (Ted) Stevens."

Four days later, Monegan was fired. He said he had kept others in the administration fully apprised of his plans to go to Washington.

31. from 3 to 6 pm
alaskan time (that's 7 to 10 pm EST), you can listen to http://www.kudo1080.com/showdj.asp?DJID=46573
anchorage progressive talk radio. i've gotten hooked on CC's show and i'm in NC. last night and the night before the whole show was basically about the mccain campaign taking over alaska's government in order to obstruct the investigation into troopergate. i don't think they're going to get away with it. and i wonder if it's got any bearing on palin's canceling her CA campaign stop. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=14&entry_id=30444&tsp=1
maybe she'll step down yet; i certainly think she should have never accepted the nomination.

CC's program is a good source of information. Palin has been a flash in the pan. She ignited the far-right religious folks, but at what cost, John McSame? It's positively delicious.
