Poll question: Who is ready for the crash?
What have you done to prepare?

1. We started making plans in February to leave
We saw the writing on the wall then as companies began cutting back and my husband's company was having to re-bid with long-term clients. Everyone is cutting back. He's now involved with a British company that is setting up an office in Dubai. That's where the money is now. He's already in the UK; I have my visa...just waiting for the house to sell.

Never ever would have imagined eight years ago that we'd be doing this but I'm not going to make my daughter pay off the debt for the reckless way Bush and his cronies have run this country.

Will only leave if McCain gets elected - but still don't know where.

3. Moved to the country in 2005
We have established a fairly productive vegetable garden, have 18 hens, and have great progressive neighbors. Will this be enough? Hell, if the R's steal it again, I don't think so.

5. Put my meager holdings in cash last October.
I can probably last two years, more or less, with no income, unless hyperinflation takes hold.

I'm not betting against hyperinflation, though. Then all bets are off, I'm boned, but so is everyone else, I guess.

6. Most ordinary people do not have a lot of excess money to put into gold.
Neither do they have the option of leaving the country. The truth of it is, as the saying goes, that most of us live lives of quiet desperation. We do and will do what we need to get along, to make it to the next day, month, year. There is no sure way to protect yourself from every eventuality and pitfall of life. Yes, the sky may fall and one day the storm may come and those who constantly predict doom will seemingly delight in their eventually being correct with big "I told you so-s". We need to be prudent and find a balance between blissful ignorance and a bunker mentality because when we obsess about a storm that may come we will miss many wonderful and beautiful days.

7. Going bankrupt as we speak to get rid of all debts
Not that I have a choice

Then we've plans to go to either NZ, Thailand, or Germany. Thailand is our first choice. We love it there but we'll need a small income, as they're not real hip on foreigners working there.

I'm not paying off this 9 trillion dollar debt that was mostly accrued to pay for killing innocents and to build golden parachutes for oligarchs.

Peace out!

8. I don't expect us to suddenly crash into a Depression.

I think we're going to slowly sink into one over a course of years-- especially if McCain wins the election. We may well avoid it if Obama wins and manages to get his economic plan put into action.
