Do you live in a state that borders Canada or Mexico?
If so, then you may be qualified enough to be Vice President!!!

Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said his party's vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, lacks foreign policy experience and called it a "stretch" to say she's qualified to be president.

Could Palin lead the country if GOP presidential nominee John McCain could not?

"I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Hagel said.

McCain and other Republicans have defended Palin's qualifications, citing Alaska's proximity to Russia. Palin told ABC News, "They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

2. Well, to be fair, you'd also have to be governor of that state, or some equivalent.
Leader of the local Boy Scout troop might quilify you, though.

The Capitol is the legislature. You need executive experience. Go look at the Governor's Mansion. :)

4. Alaska is the only state that borders two foreign countries
Alaska borders Russia and Canada but just because it does so does not mean people in alaska have foreign experience that differs greatly from any other American.

And California borders Japan, Taiwan, and the Koreas...

People are close relatives living just three miles apart but in different countries. They mix and mingle quite often.

9. I have lots of foreign policy experience.
Item. My #1 daughter lives in Yorkshire, her husband is British and my grandsons have such a thick accent I can't understand them on the phone.

Item. The father of the S/O of my #2 daughter was Basque and his mother is Spanish. He grew up in Madrid. I have trouble spelling his last name.

Item. This summer my #2 son lived with a woman who was born in Colombia.

Item. On a clear day I can see Mexico from my back porch.

...and the poor driving skills of the average Albertan have given me a lot of high level contentious type negotiation experience.

I'd feel comfortable in a demolition derby with Vladimir Putin.

Oh, and my Grandfather could walk to the Netherlands from his house in Germany.

Vote for me.

17. Well I live in Texas...
I have vacationed in both Canada and Mexico, so I have experience negotiating with foreign officials on imports. It would be wonderful to have that big chair in the Senate chamber - just relax and doze off with that big gavel in my hand. And of course you get to go to a lot of foreign funerals and have that nice Navy house to live in.

29. Heck, I can see the foothills of Southeastern Ohio from here
and believe me, that is a foreign country all its own.

(Now, I love what we lovingly refer to God's Country personally, all you Meigs, Vinton, Athens, Washington, Gallia, Morgan, Lawrence, Hocking, Jackson counties, and yes even you, Perry county, whom I will be in Saturday with all my love at my favorite festival of all time, the Backwoods Festival, no offense meant, but you all know you are different, like your own country) I will actually be contributing to their economy in a large way via this festival. And no passport needed! No border patrol either. (well, not really, unless you go off road somewhere you should have asked first)

I can joke, as my grandmother's family are all from Perry County...and Perry County has the BEST fried chicken in the world for that matter at the Clay Haus in Somerset (oh yes they do!) And the ambiance is amazing.

32. Yes and also the Indian Stream Republic...
From Wiki:

The Republic of Indian Stream was a small, unrecognized, constitutional republic in North America that existed from July 9, 1832 to 1835. Described as Indian Stream Territory, so-called by the U.S. census taker in 1830, the area was named for Indian Stream, a small river, and had an organized, elected government and constitution which served about 300 citzens.

Snip:

The area was first settled under a land grant not from the King of England, but rather from the St. Francis Wampanoag chief, King Philip, who had led many successful raids on New England settlements during the 1670s.

Snip

The establishment of Indian Stream as an independent nation was essentially the result of the ambiguous boundary between the United States and Canada as defined in the Treaty of Paris, because there were three possible options for "the northwesternmost head of Connecticut River." As a result, the area (in and around the three tributaries that fed into the head of the Connecticut River) was not necessarily under the jurisdiction of either the U.S. or Canada.

Snip

The republic ceased to operate independently in 1835, when the New Hampshire Militia occupied the area, following a vote by the Indian Stream Congress to be annexed by the U.S. The vote arose from fears regarding a prior incident in which a group of "Streamers" invaded Canada to free a fellow citizen who had been arrested by a British sheriff and judge over a matter of an unpaid hardware store debt, as debtors' prison laws were still in force at the time. The invading posse shot up the judge's home where their comrade was being held, causing something of an international incident. The British Ambassador to the U.S. was astonished at the idea of a war with the States over a matter of a hardware-store debt and quickly agreed to engage in negotiations to resolve the long-simmering border disputes resulting from the poor wording of the Treaty of Paris.

Snip:

In 1842, the land dispute was definitively resolved by the Webster-Ashburton Treaty and the land was assigned to New Hampshire. However, the 1845 Lewis Robinson Map of New Hampshire "Based on the latest authorities," has a northern boundary at the town of Clarksville, just south of modern-day Pittsburg.

So yeah, up here in the Granite state we know about being able to see TWO foreign countries from our houses....
