I'm sorry, but I don't see how you can view the collapse of the banking industry as anything but "economic armageddon". Washington Mutual is just about to topple, and once it does the FDIC won't be able to cover everyone's deposits. Once WaMu falls, you'll start seeing more and more banks fail. Sure, a few will survive. And if you're not a customer now, good luck becoming a customer in the future. Unless you have LOTS of money to deposit and a clean credit rating, no bank is going to want to touch your money in the future.

And as the economy continues to shrink, you're going to see unemployment go through the roof. We're already seeing unemployment figures rise, this is only the beginning.

So yeah, pardon me if I'm just a wee bit pessimistic.

More than "drama queens" I'm irritated by "nothing to see here" reactionaries who base every post in a desire to sound rational by reacting against someone else's fear. While the drama queens hypothesize that "bad things are going to happen" it's usually based on some sort of information: nobel laureates in economics remarking in news articles that there might be a run on the banks, for example.

But the "nothing to see here" reactionary bases his opinions on absolutely nothing at all. Total thin air. The desire to differentiate himself from those "drama queens."

It's people like you who base EVERYTHING YOU SAY on emotion--the need to convince yourself that all is well, the need to 'sound more rational' than someone else. So you make absurd pronouncements based in nothing but your own opinion:

"Obama will win."

Well let's hope so, but it's called an e-l-e-c-t-i-o-n. You have no idea what will happen.

I suppose it depends on what you think "armageddon" means. Every analyst seems to agree that the markets are in "unchartered territory." So your opinion means squat. In fact, it's just emotional drivel.

I'd rather see posts from frightened folks with colorful interpretations of world events then some arrogant moron who believes in the neoconservative "it's the end of history! nothing will ever happen!"

fundamentalists get to enjoy the "end of the world is coming" ride.

Our "express" train may be headed to a different destination, but the thrill of the ride is, apparently, not to be missed. Our vision of what comes after the "end" differs from that of the RW fundamentalists, but we share a desire to see a world that is "restructured" in line with our beliefs.
