Brad Pitt donates money to support gay marriage
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080918/ap_en_ce/people_brad_pitt

LOS ANGELES - Brad Pitt has donated $100,000 to fight California's November ballot initiative that would overturn the state Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage.

It's the first time voters will be asked to ban same-sex marriage in a state where gay couples already have won the right to wed. Same-sex marriage is legal in Massachusetts and California.

It's the first time voters will be asked to decide the issue in either California or Massachusetts — the states where gays have won the right to wed.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," Pitt said Wednesday.

11. In California?
Unfuckingbelievable.

I don't think they'll have the votes though.

7. Has anyone factored this ballot initiative...
...and how it will impact the California race?

I can see the Fundies lining up weeks before election day--like Star
Wars fanatics lined up for "The Phantom Menace"--in celebration of
their bigotry.

This could significantly increase Rep turnout. We all know how the love
to run to the polls and express their hatred.

21. California has a long history of ballot initiatives that GOTV for GOPhers.
Sadly, some of them even win. Nonetheless, putting such an initiative on the ballot gets the cockroaches to come out of the woodwork.

8. What a guy!
I'm straight but not narrow, and I happily support the rights of same-sex couples to marry.

14. The campaign prefers "Same Sex Marriage"
For some weird reason the focus groups reacted better to "Same Sex Marriage" than to "Gay Marriage".

However the scripts we're using to call likely voters do use the language "discriminate against gay and lesbian folks" - go figure.

Please join the campaign if you possibly can

17. Brad and Angelina have said they won't marry until gays
can legally marry in the whole U.S. Which means they'll never marry. They probably wouldn't anyway, but it's a nice gesture.

18. That's great. Now Brad needs to get Angelina on board...
and they both should support Obama.

Several weeks ago, before the the conventions, Angelina was quoted as saying she was still undecided as she wanted to hear the candidates speak for themselves.

Also a stoner. Gotta love the guy - doesn't get enough recognition for some great work (TWELVE MONKEYS, FIGHT CLUB).
