Just had to get that off my chest.

On the other hand - what is it about "be prepared for at least three days" that people don't understand? I'm not talking about poor folks. I'm talking about the people in my own suburb.

We are truly a dumbed-down society. SCARY.

And we still don't have electricity. I'm using some "power" from a neighbor.

1. We spend billions a month on a war in Iraq but people can't

get water and food after waiting for 3 or more hours? It's ridiculous.

Yes, fema is the biggest, costliest hoax on the planet - and I also agree with you on being prepared, goodness, it ain't rocket science! I lived on the coast of SC for many years, and when a storm is coming you fill up your bathtubs with water, roll up your rugs and get everything you can "up" off the floor, and get some non-perishable food on hand...three days, absolutely, three days of survival is so doable (assuming you have a house left, I mean) -

5. FEMA seemed to work during clinton.

had that 100 year flood on the mississippi, and tho the flooding was sustained, didn't seem to have coverage of what we see with georgee's FEMA.

3. Times are so rough right now, I bet a lot of people are dipping into

their emergency stashes of food and pet food even in the suburbs. :(

4. Some people can't wrap their heads around what

a disaster means. I mean, what do you mean the 7/11 has no ice? They always have ice! Oh, you mean they can't keep it cold either because their power is out, too? Gee, I never thought of it that way.

It's a funny sense of entitlement at work, entitlement to goods and services a 10 minute drive away. They just can't comprehend the fact that a disaster means nobody including the 7/11 and the gas station will be able to function to meet their needs.

What people don't seem to realize is that it will take 72 hours for trucks with ice, water and MREs to arrive at distribution areas, but that they'll be without power for a very long time and have better have figured out how to cope for weeks, not just a couple of days.
