A gentle reminder of what we're dealing with
Do you remember this? Reading the rest of the article is like having a bout of double vision where the past is overlaid on the present..

"...The aide said that guys like me were ''in what we call the reality-based community,'' which he defined as people who ''believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.'' I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. ''That's not the way the world really works anymore,'' he continued. ''We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.''..."

1. That aide is exactly right, we are an empire and those in charge define reality
So, we had damned well better be in charge or the rest of the world will indeed do everything it can to change the reality our rulers (and that's what you get with an empire, rulers not governance) try to create....and when that's done in a hostile manner it will mean a lot of pain for us citizens.

The US is very powerful and if we don't start acting with the appropriate responsibility, that power will be taken away.
