Palin's 'Heretical' Church: Censored Video the McCain Campaign Doesn't Want you to See:

Posted by Bruce Wilson at 3:23 PM on September 13, 2008.

Video identified Palin churches as part of movement decried from right as heretical.

Sarah Palin was baptized at Wasilla Assembly of God and attended the church for over two and a half decades, and she has been publicly blessed by a number of pastors and religious leaders employed by and associated with that church.

Last Sunday our research team released a video, a ten-minute mini-documentary, focusing on the Wasilla Assemblies of God and the video seemed on the verge of a massive "viral" breakthrough when YouTube pulled it down, citing "inappropriate content".

At the point the video was censored by YouTube it had been viewed by almost 160,000 people. The short of it is that YouTube has censored a video documentary that appeared to be close to having an effect on a hard fought and contentious American presidential election. .......(more)

The complete piece and the videos are at: http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/98698/palin%27s_%27heretical%27_church%3A_censored_video_the_mccain_campaign_doesn%27t_want_you_to_see%3A/

6. And yet, if you do a search for "Reverend Wright"
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 09:44 PM by ThoughtCriminal
at YouTube, you get 2,680 videos.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=reverend%20wright&search=Search&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&spell=1

I did get 86 hits for "Wasilla Assemblies of God", but I do not know yet if any of the videos are the same one mentioned.

12. O.M.G... there are no words.
That this person could have made it
to the world stage as VP running mate
for the next presidential election
should scare you to death.

Think what that says about the citizens
of the USA.

Time to move.
Far away.
Very far away.

13. If I ever linked the regular Assembly of God people to the Palin whackjobs, I apologize
Looks like regular evangelicals have actually been the sole opposition to them.

"The Third Wave movement is cross-denomination and is not synonymous with any specific denomination, nor is it synonymous with Evangelical or Fundamentalist. Although the movement emerged from Pentecostalism, it draws its support from a variety of denominations and religious streams. They believe they are forming a post-denominational church to take the world for the end times. To date, all of the writing and objections to this movement have emerged from other Evangelicals and Fundamentalists who believe the movement to be unbiblical. Also, it is other conservative churches that refuse to embrace the 'outpouring of the Spirit' that are targets of much of the anger of the movement."

17. I think it's a bit risky to criticize her religion.
Though personally it turns me off BIG time, there are still many, many people who have the level of faith in a deity that is capable of directing people's lives, almost to the point that there is really no free will... that they are likely to be inspired by her apparent faith.

Can't control the internet, but Obama's campaign better stay away from this crap.

20. To the majority of people I have spoken w/
she is an extremist, religious wackjob. I use those words because they were the ones I most often heard.

If she doesn't want anyone to judge her on her religious views, then she should keep her fucking mouth shut (We are god's warriors in Iraq) while campaigning for a secular position in our secular government.

I, my self, am going to keep screaming it from the rooftops.

28. It's one thing to be tolerant of one's religion,
it's quite another to tolerate intolerance - and that's what these people are, intolerant. They are intolerant of anyone who believes differently than they do. Read "American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America" by Chris Hedges. It will scare they crap out of you.

Here is the DU non-fiction book forum thread on the book: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=209&topic_id=5027

I agree that it could be very harmful for Obama to bring up this topic, but the rest of us, ALL OF US, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, agnostic, ALL OF US, need to speak out against this horribly intolerant group of people who claim to be doing the work of god. I fear for where we will go if we let them continue down this road without challenge.

Read the book.

32. here's the difference though
I grew up around people who believed the way she does. These folks didn't start participating in government until the 1980s. They used to just stay home on election day. But now, not only do they vote, they've become part of the political system itself.

They can pray to a flaming, purple cheese-whiz Jesus for all I care...but now they want to gain access to positions where they will directly impact my everyday life. THAT's what scares the crap outta me. And that's why I think their "faith" is fair game.

26. Thanks for the clarification
I was going to point out that if she didn't attend that church any longer, it's kinda like linking Wright and Obama. Though I don't want to be painted as an "apologist" just want to get it right, you know?
