Two boys get 25 years in beating death of elderly man - “Want to have some fun?”
Two boys get 25 years in beating death of elderly man, two others won't be tried as adults

“Want to have some fun?”

When Demitris King spoke those words on June 14, he wasn’t referring to playing basketball, video games or the various other things a 15-year-old would typically have on his mind. He was pointing out 81-year-old Ezequiel Jimenez Perez as an object for vicious, violent amusement, prosecutor Craig Smith said.

King, the alleged leader of a group of five kids prowling the streets that morning, led them in attacking Perez, Smith said. They pummeled him with their fists, a stick and a bucket and left Perez on the pavement in such a horrid state that his daughter didn’t even recognize him.

King, a judge ruled Friday, deserves a second chance.

Citing his previous clean record, his age and the fact that the beating was not planned in advance, Judge Jon Stuebbe said King should not be tried as an adult. The longest King could now be held in custody is until his 25th birthday. If tried as an adult, he could have received life.

"Here, for a bonus, is how that very British ending ends:

That’s what it’s going to be then, brothers, as I come to the like end of this tale. You have been everywhere with your little droog Alex, suffering with him, and you have viddied some of the most grahzny bratchnies old Bog ever made, all on to your old droog Alex. And all it was was that I was young. But now as I end this story, brothers, I am not young, not no longer, oh no. Alex like groweth up, oh yes.

But where I itty now, O my brothers, is all on my oddy knocky, where you cannot go. Tomorrow is like all sweet flowers and the turning vonny earth and the stars and the old Luna up there and your old droog Alex all on his oddy knocky seeking like a mate. And all that cal. A terrible grahzny vonny world really, O my brothers. And so farewell from your little droog. And to all others in this story profound shooms of lip-music brrrrrr. And they can kiss my sharries. But you, O my brothers, remember sometimes thy little Alex what was. Amen. And all that cal.

America prefers the other, more violent, ending. Who am I to say America is wrong? It’s all a matter of choice."

3. Sorry - two of the other boys:
Two of the other boys involved in the beating of Ezequiel Perez were sentenced to 25 years to life Friday morning. Because they were only 13 at the time of the crime, William Wandick III and Robert Smith III can only be hold until they’re 25.
