We will never forget.
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 01:38 AM by Lakerstan
Is it just me, or is that phrase, "We will never forget", as used in the context of 9/11, a veiled, hawkish sentiment secretly used by conservatives to inject the idea of fear and war into Americans? Does it go along side "America - kick-ass" and "Love it or leave it"?

It's hard to tell if it really is, or I'm just hyper-sensitive to words and symbols these days. Sometimes it feels like the American flag itself has been taken on as an anti-liberal symbol by conservatives.

I think perhaps some might use this phrase as vengeful, as in: "We will never forget.....who did this and we're coming to kick ass"

Whereas others might use it as "We will never forget....the lives lost on that tragic day."

Maybe it covers both - I don't know.

1. What's a worse tragedy
than that terrible day is that those deaths were allowed to become a symbol to fuel American jingoistic hatred.

2. The creepiest thing I saw once
was on the back of a semi, actually I think it was an oil tanker, and it had what appeared to be a mural of sorts, depicting planes crashing into the towers. The phrase "never forget" was written. I have to say, it just seemed...weird. It's one thing to have a painting of the skyline itself or the towers, but the buildings actually getting destroyed? strange.

Maybe, it's just me, but it's kind of hard to forget a day when two huge skyscrapers were destroyed, killing 3000 people, as well as the Pentagon. Not to mention, it was also the justification for two wars, both of which have been complete failures, as well as the destruction of civil liberties at home. 9/11 has become a prop for conservatives and an excuse for jingoism and ignorance.
