Bush Said to Give Orders Allowing Raids in Pakistan

By ERIC SCHMITT and MARK MAZZETTI
Published: September 10, 2008
WASHINGTON — President Bush secretly approved orders in July that for the first time allow American Special Operations forces to carry out ground assaults inside Pakistan without the prior approval of the Pakistani government, according to senior American officials.

The classified orders signal a watershed for the Bush administration after nearly seven years of trying to work with Pakistan to combat the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and after months of high-level stalemate about how to challenge the militants’ increasingly secure base in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

American officials say that they will notify Pakistan when they conduct limited ground attacks like the Special Operations raid last Wednesday in a Pakistani village near the Afghanistan border, but that they will not ask for its permission.

“The situation in the tribal areas is not tolerable,” said a senior American official who, like others interviewed for this article, spoke on condition of anonymity because of the delicate nature of the missions. “We have to be more assertive. Orders have been issued.”

3. Perhaps he should ask McSame. After all, McSame is saying that he
knows where he is and how to capture him. Seems like it would be treason for McSame not to share with georgie

6. The only way McCain would get elected
will be if:

1. Bush finds Bin Laden and kills / captures him

2. Voting machines are rigged

8. He should be.
And he should have been for the last 7 years. If he doesn't find him, he's a failure.

9. Why would we even try and apprehend Bin Laden?
Dana Perino said today that he wasn't behind 9/11? Oh, I get it. We had to wait to make him innocent to go after him. Of Course! It just ain't fun if we aren't recklessly chasing innocents, is it? :sarcasm: this administration is fucking brain dead.

10. Maybe he ought to organize another hunt through the White House,
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 11:47 PM by JohnyCanuck
just in case he missed Osama the last time he was looking for him in the White House broom closets, and under the Oval Office carpets etc..

On edit:
Oh wait that was the WMDs he was looking for in the White House not Osama. Well after some careful consideration, I'm thinking maybe Dick Cheney's underground bunker might be a better spot to organize a search for Goldstein, er sorry, I mean Osama.

11. bush coulda extradited ObL in 2001
Remember, after 911, before bush attacked, the Taliban was
offering to extradite Osama bin Ladin to the US. All they
required was for bush to go thru the normal international
courtesy of providing them with some evidence that indicated
that Osama was the perpetrator of the crime. Preferring violence
over diplomacy, bush refused providing any evidence, demanding
instead that Taliban turn him over or he starts bombing away...
It coulda been more effective to have explored this diplomatic
possibility, not to mention less expensive in blood and treasure.
But that's not the bush way, nor is it his God's way.
Holy violence is God's preferred way.

13. This is why playing politics with important issues disgusts me
Just as it's vile for Bush** to only show interest in apprehending bin Laden SEVEN YEARS ON to buck up his party's chances in November, it's vile that the Dems have refused to impeach the bastard for fear of hurting their chances in November.
