I'm listening to this guy on Ed Schultz's show, re: high prices in Alaska
I missed the beginning so I'm not sure why he's talking about how expensive it is to live in Alaska (says milk is $9/gallon, bread $6/loaf, etc -- because everything has to be flown in)

So, invoking the same argument that the "compassionate repugs" make about natural disaster victims, such as in New Orleans:

Why do they live there then? Surely they realize that living in the boondocks would have a price, and the cost of living would be high. Why don't they just move to a cheaper place?

It's just so funny how they're so quick to use that line on others, but never think it applies to them.

1. First of all, that guy was talking primarily about the fact that Alaskans
apparently have been locked into some contracts that prevent their gas prices from going down. He said those in the lower 48 may see their gas prices go down by $2.00, but we are forced to pay the high prices at the hub!

I do think most people who move to Ak know it's expensive to live there. The natives most likely find ways around a lot of those prices, and those who chose to live there love it because of it's beauty, and all the things that some people LOVE.

I couldn't do it anymore...I'm too old now, but 20-30 years ago, I'd have moved there in a heartbeat! I've only know two families who move there. One from Pa. and one from Ga. There's no way to supress their enthuiasm. THey LOVE IT!

6. Exactly what gas company does Palin tax?
 and exactly what gas money does Palin hand out to Alaskans?

and yes she did along with an extremely large majority of Legislators gave out a one time energy assistance check. It was done in a very Bi-Partisan manner. By the way did you cash your Stimulus check?

11. My post was meant to be informative

Not an attack.

And yeah, I cashed my stimulus check. Spent it, too. Thanks for asking.

On edit-I just read upthread that you are from Alaska. You sounded like you didn't know about the rebates in your posts. If I'd realized you were just being defensive, I wouldn't have wasted my time finding the link and posting it.

5. "never think it applies to them"
You could have just said the GOP "never think" and it would have been fine.

Good question.

8. Yeah it is. The first time I visited there with a friend, we were young and
back packing staying in campgrounds for the most part. We found sticker shock in feeding ourselves and found out of the way places to get game like venison and mooseburgers because they were cheaper. Unemployment was very high too. Many white people were living on the land to sustain themselves because of the lack of work. I suppose the pipeline changed a lot of that. Of course if you got a job, it was usually paid very well.
