5. Of course
We will have the future we ordain for our people -- nothing less or nothing more. And we can thank George Bush for doing his job and trying to destroy the US. He will, however, never succeed.

14. Europeans invade America?
Wouldn't be too difficult.

Just dangle a shiny object like this in front of America and you can waltz in the front door.

27. You missed my point? I'll explain it to you.
America (and more specifically, American media) Is UNABLE to see real-world issues.

Why do you think this Georgia thing has been such a disastrous surprise? If the media were paying attention as they should have, they would have noticed the ultra-nationalist movement in Georgia AND Russia's opposition to Georgia's ambitions.

My point, boiled down, is that America will continue to be "surprised" by world events", unless they WAKE UP.

Lipstick, Pastors and Lapel Pins. THOSE are the things that will bring America down.

Not Terrorists. Or Abortion. Or even Campaign Finance Reform.

9/11 was not merely an event. It was a warning.

Every fucking body here knows that. EVERY body. Now let's see you be a big brave man and post that at Free Republic.

Everyone here is awake -- it's the freepers you should talk to -- unless you just want to act like a jerk.

32.  Exactly how am I acting like a jerk?
And why should I waste my time at FR to prove my point? It's not like I'll make any difference there. I can't think of a more UNproductive use of my limited time here on Earth.

Can you further elucidate what I should be doing?

34. You're making insulting remarks against a given nationality
You cannot generalize about 300 million people and expect to be taken seriously any more than you can generalize about any other ethnicity or nationality and not be thought rude as hell. When you say "Americans", you're including ALL the people on Democratic Underground the majority of whom are Obama cash donors or Obama volunteers or both. We ALL know what the problems are far, far better than you do.

Our country will survive whether you like it or not. The country is her people. My family has been here 350 years. It is the only ethnicity I have. And I'm a liberal Democrat.

35. Yes, I see your point
I have seen and read MANY examples of those who show sanity, civility, intelligence and wit on this board.

My post was obviously not aimed at them, or yourself.

Unfortunately, DU is NOT a representative sample of ALL Americans. Not even close.

I wish it were.

And if you inferred that I meant every single American, I apologize.

I was over-generalizing. And for that, I am sorry.

37. HALF of the US voting public voted for Gore and Kerry
More than half will now vote for Obama. That's far more than a representative sampling. I'm a Californian but I'm also an American. I believe in the real roots of this country but not the snake swamp the GOP has turned it into.

The majority of people on DU agree about the horrible turn our country has taken under BushCo (and that includes Ronald Reagan who was great for every country in the west but his own). We're their #1 victims -- we're not the villains.

12. What happened to our super-conducting supercollider?
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 01:43 PM by muddleofpudd
Didn't we build one, or weren't we supposed to build one, in Texas? Whatever happened with that?

On edit: I see where we were supposed to build one near Waxahachie, but it's funding got pulled in 1993.

There are thousands of scientists here doing important work without all the media glare of the new collider and Europe is known to argue some pretty stupid topics also.

Just sticking up for the scientists here.

31. Scientists from 80 countries (including 1000 US scientists) are associated
with the project. Not to mention the components and funding from nations around the globe. It is a truly global scientific endeavor. Of course, that does not detract from Europe's achievement in any way.
