Obama: Spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change . . .

NORFOLK Va. -- Speaking at a high school in Norfolk, Obama took a few moments to address what he calls "the made-up controversy" of the day, Amie Parnes reports.

Obama said the McCain campaign moved to "seize an innocent remark and take it out of context because they knew it's catnip for the news media."

"See, it would be funny, but the news media decided that would be the lead story yesterday. This happens every election cycle. Every four years, this is what we do. This is what they want to spend two of the last 55 days talking about...Enough!" he said.

Obama called the attacks "lies, outrage and swift boat politics."

"These are serious times and they call for a serious debate...spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change."

"I don't care what they say about me, but I love this country too much to let them take over this election with lies," said Obama. "These are serious times, and they call for a serious debate about where we need to take the nation. We can't take another four years that are like the last eight."

"What their campaign has done this morning is the same game that has made people sick and tired of politics in this country. They have seized on an innocent remark, try to take it out of context, throw up an outrageous ad, because they know it's catnip for the news media," Obama said as he began a forum on education policy at a high school library in Norfolk.

"The McCain campaign would much rather have the story about phony and foolish diversions than about the future," he said.

"Enough!" Obama added. "I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and swiftboat politics. Enough is enough."

1. Simple, direct, to the point
Which means it will sail completely over the heads of practically everyone in the popular media for whom the Great Lipstick Debate of 2008 is catnip.

In truth, I don't think it was the lipstick on a pig remark that got to her....I think the "old stinking fish" part may have hit a little close to home though. :D

14. I just watched what I think is the lowest moment of TV journalism.
It was Nora O'Donnell and some female Governor (R, of course), actually sitting there and talking about this as if this were a real news story. Nora asked her 'how do you know he meant Sara Palin?' She said she didn't know, but Obama should apologize anyway, because some people took offense and that's the right thing to do. Nora said John McCain said the same thing about Hillary's plan, and it's a common used term, 'yes, but that was different, because there he was clearly using it differently'.

Two things. One, why is it that when one side says the world is flat and the other says it's round, they give them both equal weight? And two, how did Nora restraint herself from walking over there and beating her with a sack of oranges screaming 'YOU FUCKING STUPID MORON, GET OFF MY SHOW!!'

I am in shock at the sheer stupidity of this...if she was my Governor I'd walk over to the Statehouse and ask for a refund of my taxes, cause you just abused and embarrassed the office.

I'm just in shock...they can do this with a straight face...they must know something and are desperate, because that was just painful.
