Poll question: The very same play or a whole new play book? We're stupid or we're stupider?
I was absolutely gobsmacked today. It was suggested, right out in the open, right there in the main stream media, that people want to "dine with John McCain".

Between Puckhead's inexplicable popularity (from zero to 90% name ID in two weeks(!)(?)(!)(?) ) and the repackaging of a 72 year old sow's ear as a silk purse, they are doing it all over again.

And if you think they're not, if you think you can just stick your fingers in your ears and go blibbleblibbleblibbleblibbleblibble until it goes away, you're really not helping.

We are a nation of morons. Thinking people are in the minority. Morons are the key. Play to morons and you win. Play to reason and you lose.

Every time.

So ....... the question:

Is this ......

1. Iowa Gov Vilsack called it an "Etch-A-Sketch" campaign ...
... they shake it up and it's as if the past 7-8 years never existed.

Voila! They can start over again!

4. If it is aimed at morons, it wins.

Style over substance, fashion over reason, ignorance over information... take your pick.

Republicans found a winning formula, and they're sticking with it.

6. Looking at it large scale, it's the same basic play.
Of course some of the particulars are different, but the large aspects are strikingly the same. Here's how:

While the Dems placate their base, and move to the right, the pubs actually move to the even rightmost. Our strategy is to try to cover the middle, while theirs is to concentrate on the solid right. Coupled with creative redistricting that's taken place over the years, they figure as long as they get enough of the swing states, that's all they need. They care about that slim majority, 50+1. After that, they govern as if they were kings.

Another classic move played out again, take your opponents strengths, and turn them into a weakness. Obama's curious and intelligent sounding? Elitist. Obama has the experience of many points of view and many cultures? Strange and exotic.

These things have happened so many times that if the campaign strategists haven't figured them out and prepared for it, any one who donated to the campaign should get their money back.

I'm not going to get into voter suppression, or machine tampering, or any of that, cause that's too depressing, but that is also what the Dem leadership should have been fighting for these years.
