When Polls call...
Do they have a caller ID? The reason I'm asking is that I have been getting a ton of "Unknown name" calls lately. I ignore those but wonder if they could be possible Polling calls.

1. I think they might be likely to show up as "Unknown name" - if they have a bank
of temporary phone lines for just a few months and then have a lull in polling business before the next election season...?

I hope people who know more than I will chime in on this thread.

P.S. You have a very handsome cattledog as your avatar!

2. I've been getting a lot of name "unknown" calls too.
I tracked the area codes and they originated in Erie, PA, South Dakota, Shreveport, LA, Birmingham, AL, Lowell, MA, Santa Rosa, CA, Eugene, OR,
Kalamazoo, MI, and Vail, CO. The Birmingham number has been most persistent with calls at different times of the day, but my voice recorder comes on and the call
clicks off after the end of my message. I decided that I would finally
answer any call today, but, guess what, the calls have stopped! The last AL
call showed "person to person". I've been reluctant to answer unfamiliar
numbers from out-of-state because I once got one for a reverse-charge
call from a prison! Are these pollster calls or just pleas for political
donations? Sure would like to know experiences of others.

3. the poll calls I've received have had company names attached to them
I don't remember the names but they were something like ABC Research, Media Information, etc.

4. Possible
A company/organization can set their telephone switch up to block the originator, thus unknown. A lot of private residents can do the same. I would think the big ones would want the name to show, but if they are outsourcing to a call center it may not be an option.
