I stopped by the Kathy Griffin late show last Friday just a couple of hours after seeing Sean Hannity and Neal Boortz. I am confident to say I was the only person who went to both shows.
Griffin is an unabashed liberal though she isn’t terribly political. She’s beloved by her “gays,” as she dubs them. And her show “Kathy Griffin: Life on the D List” has lasted four seasons on Bravo. At the Fox Theatre Friday, she made a raft of jokes about the new Republican VP candiate Sarah Palin but it was more personality based than anything else.
“As a comedian,” she told the partisan crowd, “I want to give Sarah Palin a muffin basket!”
She was impressed with Palin’s speaking ability (“She delivers like Domino’s!”) and made fun of Palin’s kids names such as Bristol and Trig. She called her Tina Fey, who she resembles. She likes Palin’s do: “She’s got a great gay doing her hair, a good Log Cabin Republican!”
“And who knew there were rednecks in Alaska with Fargo accents?”
She then found a way to segue between Palin and Michael Vick thanks to Palin’s joke about the difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom? (“Lipstick”)
“Put her in Michael Vick’s backyard!” The crowd didn’t react universally warmly to that one so she said, “I get it, Atlanta! I know where I am!”
