1. Biography or hagiography?
What type of slant does it have?

2. Haven't figured that out yet
I tuned in a bit late but he was just getting married to Carol. Talked about his aircraft that set off a major fire which caused over 100 deaths and nearly destroyed the ship. Of course jumped out and ran to safety before the bombs exploded. He's about to be captured after the commercials. Soon get the biographers name.

3. Robert Timberg is the biographer
McCain the hero - nothing about the bad boy who wrecked several aircraft.

4. He used to be a reporter for the Baltimore Sun (can't find a byline more recent than 2005)

He's written two books about McCain, as well as The Nightingale's Song:

The Nightingale's Song is a 1995 book by Baltimore Sun journalist Robert Timberg. It relates the military and political careers of five graduates of the United States Naval Academy, most of whom served during the Vietnam War in either the United States Navy or United States Marine Corps: John McCain, Bud McFarlane, Oliver North, John Poindexter, and Jim Webb. Timberg himself was also a Naval Academy graduate and served in Vietnam with the Marine Corps, where he was badly wounded.

Not sure how critical he is, but tv is often an awful format to present complex stories.
