Dan Rather nails the MSM
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 01:14 PM by TwilightZone
"The incentive to produce good and valuable news is simply not there. American journalism is in need of a spine transplant."

"You deserve a press that provides the raw materials of democracy."

Check it out. It's fairly short (six minutes) and spot on.

2. Odd of him to complain now...
...when he was the prima donna of CBS News, trying to presume he would be the next Cronkite when he had no "journalistic spine" himself.

3. He stood up and asked Richard Nixon who the hell he thought he
was toward the end of watergate hearings. No spine?

4. And then...he turned media whore.
He began primping himself when it was his turn to be an anchor. He did stories about nothing. He hosted waste-of-space news magazines like 48 Hours. The daring rebel who questioned Nixon sat on his hands during the Bush years.

5. You are correct about that but he also went to London and in a conversation
with Palast he told him that anyone working for the MSM would be fired if they dared to speak out - that they all knew what was going on but did not dare to speak out - then they fired him for speaking out in 2004. I don't think anyone would have gotten by with speaking out until after Katrina - that was the weeks that the bubble burst on the *ss myth.

10. Agreed.
It was pretty obvious that the media higher-ups had their employees on lockdown for most of the post-9/11 Bush administration. Only now are a few of the media speaking more freely, and even they get slapped down (Keith O. on MSNBC, for one example) if they get too honest.

6. Yes. he certainly did nail it. I wonder how many people will heed his advice? Sad state
the media is in and unless the laws are changed, all the writing and phone calling in the world will not fix what's already broken.
