5. Americans are just uninformed. That's why GWB was in the White House for 8 years.
I honestly don't see how a democracy can be maintained without an informed public.

13. That's the Achilles heel of democracy - an uninformed citizenry...
You know, the kind whose entire world views are formed by Madison Avenue. "Aint that America..."

33. Your ending quote is misattributed...
...H.L. Mencken coined that phrase.

Barnum said, "A sucker is born every minute."

2. People are idiots.
Palin is a fraud, and there was NOTHING in the Republican convention but vitriolic nonsense.

If people bought that crap, they're even dumber than I thought they were.

Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 12:11 PM by Egnever
Do you expect any less?

Relax the republican hold on the narrative is now gone and the Dem's can get into the commentary again. Those numbers wont last a week.

12. I agree with you that they'll drop, but not necessarily on that time frame.
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 12:18 PM by TwilightZone
I think Palin is peaking and McCain along with her, but I think it may take a few weeks for the blather to subside and the first debates, including the VP debate, should expose the voters to reality.

23. Well from what i have seen so far of the talk shows.
The Dem's have been out there doing a yeoman's job of taking down McCain. as Long as Obama continues to hit hard all week I think we will have a 2-3 point lead by next Sunday never to look back again.

3. I expect that to continue through tuesday
This will be the last time mcsame will see a lead in the polls. Obama is back in the mix after the media blackout of the puke convention and the numbers will swiftly return to his favor.

when they come up with their numbers.

Just a pondering here...When the sElection is stolen again, do you think the pollsters were assured they wouldn't look like asses this time?

should SMOKE McCain and Palin in the debates. If we're going to claim a strong win, it will be from the debates.

17. Oh My, Oh Dear...All Is Lost...
:sarcasm:

Sheesh. So we're losing the race for homecoming king and queen. People are "wowed" by non-stop hype of the new cute chick in town...and the country was just fed a week of bullshit. But there's the "concern" that it's all over...it's gonna be stolen or caged or Rove will pull votes from Mars...Sheesh.

Michael Dukakis came out of the '88 convention with a 17 point lead...sure did him lots of good. Maybe, just maybe, these beauty pagent numbers along with all the bullshit shilling the corporate media is doing will get some people pissed and ready to fight back...phone bank, canvass...take the angst to the streets and ram these numbers up Gallup's ass.

As usual, the poll undersamples independents, younger people and minorities...and Gramps always gets his best numbers on the weekend. I'm still looking at state-by-state...where the elections are really won...and the map for Gramps is still behind on this map:

http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Pres/Maps/Sep04.html

Obama 298 McCain 227 Ties 13

The battle is far from won, but I still like our odds, our candidates and the plans to win. Polls are always backward looking...keep the eye on the prize!!

35. DON'T PANIC!!!
This is the bump the repubs expect to get from their convention... we won't have any idea of somewhat clear numbers until like weeks from now...

Even then, I''ve been saying all along I think the polls may be way off (in favor of Obama) this year because a lot of new and younger votes are people who haven't typically been part of the process are participating this year... and I don't know that pollsters are even reaching them...

But I don't really know enough about the polling process itself...
