Impressions of Joe Biden on Meet The Press Sun Sep 7 2008, "Same outfit. Same deal. No change."
Sorry this is fragmented but these were things that Biden said today that made the strongest impression on me. I think this might be of interest to DU.

(following questions about Palin, Debates)
I've debated and awful lot of tough, smart women ... There's alot of tough smart women in the US Senate, who i debate every day. In that sense its nothing new. What is new is i don't know what any of her policies are. I assume they are the same as John's, but I just don't know.
...
Its kind of ... demeaning to suggest that all women are going to vote for a woman because she's a woman even though she is diametrically opposed to everything Hillary stands for. There's all this talk about you know she didn't pick up any Hillary voters. Well, I haven't heard one single policy position one single position that she has in common with Hillary. I just think all folks will be more discriminating than just looking at whether its the same sex, or same ethnicity, or whatever. We'll see. The truth is, I don't know.
...
Look she has a great speech. But her silence on the issues was deafening. She didn't mention a word about healthcare, a word about the environment, a word about the middle class. I mean, they never parted her lips. So, I don't know where she is on these things.

(following questions about Campaigning, Town Halls)
Hopefully you're not going to be a position where you're gonna be recounting anything
...
People are focused, man.
...
We think we can win Montana.

(following a question about The Surge)
Whether or not the surge worked is almost irrelevant now. We're in a new deal. What is the administration doing? They're doing what Barack Obama has suggested over 14 months ago. Turn responsibility over, AND draw down our troops. ... The only person out of step on this is John McCain.
...
The bottom line is we can argue about whether the surge was good, bad, or indifferent. Let's assume it was all good. ... what do we do now? What's John McCain gonna do as president? He's said he's not going to sign on to the timeline, number one. Number two he has no ideas, no proposals for what to do about any of the neighbors... (this part is paraphrased. sorry.)
...
This talk about how this has been such a great success. Look who we are now, in the Middle East. You now have a Shia government, close to Iran. What's Maliki do when Ahmadinejad comes and kisses him on both cheek and seeks permission? Gimme a break about how this is such a great political success.
...
John does not view this in terms of the region. I've never heard him speak about it.

(following a question about Lieberman)
... Every time I see Joe these days, I walk up to him and I say, "Say it ain't so, Joe, say it ain't so." ... Joe has made a judgment, and he's going to have to make a tougher judgment when this election is over.

(On Change)
I don't want to personalize this election. Like I said, I heard Sarah Palin and John McCain talk about change. Tell me one single thing they're gonna do. on the economy, foreign policy, that is going to be change. Name me ONE. This is such malarkey. 90% of the time, John votes with the president. ... He jumps on his taxes ... He jumps on his foreign policy, which has been a complete and utter failure. ... he jumps on how to deal with healthcare, which is to TAX , John wants to TAX healthcare benefits for people who get their healthcare benefits from their employers. Tell me where the change is. My goodness. He may change on how he deals with A lobbyist, but the idea on the economy, healthcare, education, Same outfit. Same deal. No change.

3. Biden was FANTASTIC! I missed the last part, though.
Flipped over to catch Obama. Obama was great, too! I can't wait for the debates!

7. I also thought he did GREAT ib the abortion issue. That's important
because we all know the Pubs are going to try to push it HARD! Tom referred to Obama's response of "it's above my pay grade" to when life begins, and he asked Joe, as a Catholic, when do YOU believe life begins. His response was GREAT! "Look, I'm a Catholic, and as my faith teaches, I believe life begins at conception, but there are millions of people of other faiths...some who are even more religions that I am...who believe differently. I should not force MY beliefs on them in a secular society, as they should not force ME to follow THEIR beliefs!" Obviously I'm paraphrasing, but it very close to his exact words. THAT is exactly what I've been saying for a very long time. I believe THAT'S what "freedom to worship as you chose" means!

9. yes, it really is.
I didn't include it because there was no one part that stood out. It was basically the entire answer that was spot-on (And I didn't feel like typing the whole thing). But yeah what you're saying here is a pretty good summary. Thanks.
It was really a brilliant answer.

17. He hit it spot on!
It does not have to be something the government prohibits. Leave it to the individual conscience. Catholics, we don't have to have any abortions, since it goes against our conscience.

I really like that answer.

8. Biden
He was terrific. No way Palin would have been able to answer any of those specific questions on Iraq. Right now
she and Joe Lieberman are cuddling up on some stuffed bear rug as he crams lies down her throat to
prep her. Perhaps they are eating mooseburgers. I just find it amazing that she is in hiding, obviously unable
to handle any public vetting and Repugs keep promoting her experience.

11. Joe was poised
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 11:19 AM by Froward69
He only got a little flustered at how the questions were in half truth or gotcha type. Biden is a pro and was poised and confident.

Sara Louise Palin Would crumble under those type. I really hope tom brokaw asks her the same type of Questions.

14. The press would never go this hard on Palin, such a sexist double standard
They expect to attack Joe and try to get him off his game but Palin is supposed to be coddled and respected and blah blah blah. What a bunch of malarkey as Joe would say.
