I can't imagine any minority person supporting a gun toting radical right winger for anything.

I can't imagine myself supporting the Republican party for anything.

Palin for vice president is an insult to women everywhere.

I just don't understand what their thinking was. I really just don't get it at all. It just seems completely crazy to me.

9. Before I could have seen some minority business persons voting
Republican. But not now.

There is no way any minority person could support this ticket. No way.

19. I know a few Republicans who would surprise you
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 09:56 AM by slackmaster
A successful restauranteur who is the son of legal immigrants from Mexico.

A gay white man who does accounting for small businesses.

A Hispanic man, who also happens to be gay, who distributes cigarettes to bars.

A lesbian who teaches martial arts and is a veteran of the Marine Corps.

I guarantee you every one of those individuals, and many of their friends, are going to vote for McCain even though it is unlikely that their votes will count (because California is a winner-take-all state in the Electoral College).

25. Every one of those people would benefit from universal health insurance
Other than the MC veteran, I'll bet none of those folks have health insurance, even though they're fully employed and working hard. None of them will benefit from McCain's tax proposal either - far from it.

28. Maybe so, but I assure you they would all balk at the tax increase needed to pay for it
They, like Republicans in general, see the economy as a "We're on our own, so keep government out of our wallets" situation.

:hi:

31. Obama's tax plan would not increase taxes to anyone making under $600,000.
Further, universal health care would pay for itself. As opposed to the war in Iraq.

5. Unless someone was related to the four people in attendance...
this week, I think they lost it. Weren't even trying.

After all, McCain pandered to the same racist crowd who attacked his child back in 2000.

12. They always throw away the black vote. What is more surprising is that they have abandoned going
after the Hispanic vote. That is a huge block that they had made some inroads in but the immigration battles and scapegoating did a lot of damage. It is still surprising that they aren't even trying.

17. I was just thinking about that....
Since most Hispanics are Catholic, isn't Palin's extreme fundie position a threat to them as well?

Most thumpers believe Catholics are sinners because they worship saints.

Basically, the gay population, those who practice a religion other than fundamentalist Dominionist Christianity (and CERTAINLY atheists and agnostics), and any other segment of the population they deem to be heathens are enemies of Sarah Palin and The New Christian Dominionist Republican Party.

I think the only people they can scare with the threat of "If Obama becomes president..." are the uber wealthy whose only God is money.

20. I include them in this fundie crowd. Very, very, very racist ...
in my personal experience.

I finally had one admit to me that they're afraid of Obama because he may try to "get back at white people."

Ugh................

Don't kid yourself that there aren't any at all.

Pay attention now:

The GOP's intent in picking Palin is to energize those on the right who were not comfortable with John McCain alone. Conservative voters who would otherwise have stayed home on election day.

It has nothing to do with race or gender per se.

16. What vote?
Obama leads with blacks 94% - 3%. It's the Jewish vote that's in question. Currently, Obama has less than 60% of the Jewish vote sewn-up.

The vote that is really up for grabs is the Not Inspired By Either Party's Champion vote.

29. Polls suggest less than 6-7% of AA's will vote for McCain.
That's less than half the usual Republican vote. I think McCain gave up on the AA vote - thinking it wouldn't be worth the effort for the longshot to convince more African-Americans to vote for him.
